Mainstream Monday: Sniffing a Popular Perfume

If you’re reading EauMG because you’re already really, really into perfume, then I’m sure you’ve heard of this fragrance. This perfume created some buzz a few years ago because it retails for under $30 and the Nose behind it is Francis Kurkdjian. Really, I can’t believe there’s perfume that retails for under $30. And I also was amused that Kurkdjian was working on such accessible perfumes when he has his own brand.

Cerisier en Fleurs opens with a wet, green grassy accord. This is paired with a heady, tangy floral. The heart is an almond-y floral with a sweet powderiness that reminds me of fresh heliotrope blossoms. And then it hit me how genius it is to use something like heliotrope to give the impression of cherry blossoms. Heliotrope is often called a “cherry pie floral”. So, here you go. You get cherries, flowers and springtime. The added almond adds an amaretto-like juiciness (think almonds and apricots). This all wears as this sheer, tangy fruity-floral that makes me think of cherry trees in all of their “Oh, finally! We’ve survived winter!” glory. The fragrance doesn’t really have a dry-down. It just fades into a pile of ashen, pastel pink petals that line the walkway.

Like the other perfumes in the Un Matin au Jardin line, Cerisier en Fleurs is a “simple” soliflore. It’s fresh, delicate and, traditionally pretty. I’ve actually been surprised by how much I’ve worn it after buying a small bottle. It’s cheap and sheer so I spray it without abandon, bathing myself in spring blossoms. That’s exactly what I feel like doing after months of winter.

GIve Cerisier en Fleurs a try if you like pretty, sheer florals. Or if you like perfumes like YSL Paris, L’Occitane Cherry Blossom, The Body Shop Japanese Cherry Blossom, Sweet Anthem Lolita, Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Cherry Blossom and/or Van Cleef & Arpels Feerie Spring Blossom. 

This is an EDT so it is fleeting. Many complain about this but I look at it like this – it’s an EDT and it retails for cheap. I can’t really fault the fragrance (I paid like $5 for the small size). It wears about 3-4 hours on my skin. While it lasts, it has average projection.

The 3.4 oz retails for $28 at Yves Rocher. A smaller size is also available. If you wait for a sale, it’s not uncommon for it to be 50% off.

Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Green, almond-like floral. It’s a sheer tangy fruity-floral that I’m enjoying much more than I ever thought I would. I will be buying the bath and body products in the future and maybe even a larger bottle (to use as a linen spray as well as a personal fragrance).
