Weekly World Fumes – May 3rd 2012

Here’s the May 3rd edition of Weekly World Fumes. Have any news tips? Leave them in the comments!

Selena Gomez perfume ad

Celeb Gossip:

Dita von Teese launches her perfume in London. She claims that she stopped wearing her “mysterious and unknown to everyone” perfume after her boyfriend (of 2 weeks!) said she smells like his mom. This irritates me for many reasons but mainly because the “mysterious and unknown to everyone” perfume was either Quelques Fleurs or something by Caron or Fracas. Those are the perfumes that she has been on record wearing. Not that unknown, honey. It’s like your boobs, Dita, we’ve all seen them.

Some people say Selena Gomez is so sexy in her new fragrance ad and this is a bit of a scandal for any (even of age) Disney star. I’m sorry but there is nothing sexy to me about seeing a star drenched in grape Kool-Aid. Oh, and apparently Justin Bieber likes the perfume.

Penhaligon's Peoneve EDP

New Launches:

Lanvin will launch Jeanne Couture this summer. It’s a more “womanly and mature” fragrance with raspberry, rose, violet leaves, cedarwood, musk, peony, and magnolia. It will not be sold in the U.S. because we don’t like “womanly and mature” fragrances.

Penhaligon’s will launch Peoneve in July. It has notes of violet leaf, peony, Bulgarian rose, hedione, vetiver, musk and cashmere wood.

Perfumes News:

MiN NY is pissed that Sephora is doing a Fragrance Flight. The SoHo boutique says that they started this way of experiencing perfume first. I’m at no liberty to comment on this at all but I feel that selling fragrances like this is the only way to sell fragrances. And Sephora can do it but will the product be the same as at MiN? No. Don’t worry about it, MiN, you have your niche and loyal customers.

Michael Jackson’s dad, Joe, closed down his perfume kiosk and opened another, Jackson Perfumes, in Las Vegas’ Town Square Mall. I had no idea that Mr.Jackson was in the perfume business at all.

Le Labo and Strange Invisble Perfumes open up a “perfume commune” in Venice Beach.

The FiFi Awards Consumer’s Choice Award  is now open for voting!

EauMG Etc.

I’ve been recovering from the flu this week. Not to be a big baby, but it has been terrible. I like to go and go and this has knocked my ass back.

And the 4th is birthday.

  1. Happy belated birthday! I hope you had a fantastic day.

Loved this week’s installment, especially the vat of purple Kool Aid. So true. 🙂

Also, I adore your glasses. Can I be really nosy and ask if they are prescription and, if so, the maker and name of the frame? I need new frames.

    1. Thank you!
Seriously, is Selena Gomez supposed to be sexy in a vat of purple Kool Aid? It seems so sticky and gross.

The glasses are prescription and I ordered them from Zenni Optical – just search “cateye”. So, they were crazy cheap which I was fine with because I got a pair for around the house and airplane travel. I didn’t care what they looked like as long as I could see. Ends up they are actually pretty darn nice and much better than Prada frames I’ve had in the past.

  2. Just this week my husband saw a picture of those exact same glasses and told me I’d look great in them. It’s stuck to the fridge so I can try to match them at the eye doctor’s. I showed him how great they look on you but didn’t let him hear the part about how much guy attention they are generating! 😆

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

    1. Haha, don’t tell the husband my story! My husband wasn’t very fond of it, lol. But, he agrees that they are cute but is unsure about the free coffee from fixed gear bike guy.

  3. Even with the flu (and I’m really sorry to hear you had the flu over your birthday) your edition of Weekly World Fumes was fabulous as always.

I got a kick out of hearing that you got asked out twice and whistled at when you wore your glasses, lol! But not surprised … only surprised that you aren’t asked out every time you go out, glasses or not.

Have a good week. Hope you feel better soon!

    1. I don’t get asked out, not that I’m looking so it’s very funny to me that it all happened on the same day…the day I wore glasses and a conservative dress from Jones New York Collection, lol.

Thank you, it’s Monday and I’m feeling much better.

  4. Happy birthday.

Hope you get to feeling better.

Love the eyeglasses.. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 3. If you want to find a unique, fun, special pair – check out http://www.seeeyewear.com – they aren’t cheap – but they have the funky styles that you would probably love. I checked and there isnt a store in Seattle.. but there is one in Los Angeles 🙂

    1. Thank you!
I swore there was a See in Seattle. We have a few fancy yet weird eyeglasses places. I seriously thought See was in Ballard. Oh, well, I was wrong.

  5. Thanks for yet another delightful piece of ‘fume news. I hope you feel better and enjoyed your birthday… and by the way, I’m not surprised about the cat calls: you look absolutely lovely with those glasses! ^_^

  6. Happy birthday, Victoria!

I really enjoyed your video, plus those glasses look very nice on you. No wonder you’ve got all those men hitting on you 😛

  7. There’s no supporting evidence for it, but The Perfumed Court lists Bulgari Red Tea as Dita’s scent. If that’s the one, I can see where the boyfriend is coming from. I still wouldn’t change it if I were her. His mother is his problem!

    1. I’ve read that too. For some reason I think his mom wore Quelques Fleurs, I read it in a print magazine right before she officially started working on a fragrance saying that her boyfriend’s mom wore Quelques Fleurs so now she can’t. That is not a “rare” perfume. I think that’s Nicole Richie’s signature as well BTW. And I’m with you. It’s his problem! Not hers. If she truly loves the stuff then she should keep wearing it. And boyfriend of 2 weeks, puh-lease. I wouldn’t change for any boyfriend of 2 weeks. Just ask my husband of 8 years, lol.
