The Lipstick League – Week of 9.28.15

Question of the Week: How many skincare products do you use every day?

EauMG’s Answer: I get asked this a lot and I don’t know the answer. I actually use a lot and that’s why I avoid this question. It also changes weekly because of masks and treatments. But, here we go. Morning routine: cream cleanser, acid toner, eye serum, eye cream with SPF, BHA lotion/gel, prescription topical antibiotic, hydrating toner (like Hada Labo), serum, day cream, SPF. Now to night routine: gel cleanser, oil/cream cleanser (I double cleanse), eye makeup remover, toner, prescription retinoid, hydrating eye cream, serum, moisturizer, face oil (few drops added to cream). What is that? 19? I’d like to add a targeted dark spot treatment to my routine as well, still doing my research. My weekly treatments include a mix of sheet masks, wash-off masks and overnight/sleeping masks used about 4 times a week. I’ll use a physical or chemical scrub/”peeling” once a week. And I like to use eye masks about 2 times a week. Oh, and I massage my face with jade. Yes, I have issues but who doesn’t?

  1. Gah, Brigitte Nielsen was so gorgeous! I thought that I didn’t have that many skin care items but looking at the sink counter tells a different story! I just had to step up my moisturizer game because it literally just got cold here in LA and my skin is freaking out. Unfortunately it’s going to get hot again this weekend. Ugh. But you must tell me about this jade roller! It looks so luxurious and beautiful!

    1. Wasn’t she? She popped up in this post because I successfully talked a friend into get her short hairstyle 🙂

It’s so funny when you actually “add it up”. I realize I use a lot when I travel and pack light. I start missing ALL of my steps.

I love fall but it’s crazy. It got cold and I was searching for my heavier creams. Two days later, it was warm and sunny. So, I went back to my summer usuals. Whatever.

So, I don’t think the jade actually does anything. But, it’s traditionally used for lymphatic drainage and to balance qi. Since you massage it (which really is just rolling it in certain directions on your face, there are little “maps” online that show the direction/motions), you are increasing circulation which temporarily plumps the skin. I mainly use it because I love the cool feel of the stone. I have a double-sided one so the smaller side is perfect for under the eyes/eyes. It actually does help with puffiness from allergies or just too much sodium from the night before. I do think it helps with circulation because my skin looks more “healthy glow” after using it (like if I had just jogged but without the sweat). But, mainly I just like the cooling/soothing feel. Being in LA, you should be able to find these at a Chinese market. They aren’t too hard to find or too expensive. I bought mine in Hong Kong but I saw them in Seattle Chinatown. Oh, and apparently Kate Moss uses one, lol.

      1. Well, if it’s good enough for La Moss! Thanks a bunch. I’ll be on the lookout for one!
On Monday it was cold and rainy and this weekend it’s going to be around 100 degrees. So it’s about a 30 degree jump. Fun.
Oh, I love short hair! I wish I could pull it off but I have a super round face. (We’re talking moon, here). But I love pixie cuts and Louise Brooks style bobs.

        1. I mean, it’s Rimmel’s strategy, right?

It’s 80 today. What is going on?

I wish I could go really short but I do fear I’d have a really round face. I can do chin length but any shorter and it exposes my chins, lol.
