The Lipstick League – Week of 7.27.15

Question of the Week: Name the very first lipstick you ever purchased (if you can’t remember, pick the earliest one you remember purchasing).

EauMG’s Answer: Maybe you guys can help me out with this because I’m oddly on this Sunday morning blanking out on the shade names. I bought two Jane. Comsetics (yeah, remember them?). One was their classic red shade which I had I was told that Robert Smith wore (even though it has been rumored that he wears MAC Ruby Woo too). And the other was a really matte, really medium taupe/brown shade that is now all the rage. I bought them both as some BOGO at a local drugstore. And do you guys remember Revlon Street Wear because I was all about those. I think I ended up eventually buying all the lippies.

  1. I don’t remember the Jane lip names but I do remember Revlon Street Wear line! Those ads take me back! I remember buying revlon’s toast of New York and various dark burgundy colors from my grandmothers Avon lady. As for rumored celebrity lipcolor inspired purchases, I also bought MACs Desire because supposedly Trent Reznor would wear that onstage.

    1. From names to shades, it seems that all the indie cosmetic lines these days are basically Revlon Street Wear!

Out of nostalgia, I bought a tube of Toast of New York this summer. That was one of my favorite shades back in the day. I also bought Avon lipsticks too and remember the shades – Cocoa and Twig. I think they still make them and I wonder if the shades have changed any? I know that Twig hasn’t (bought another one last year) but not sure about “Cocoa”.

I REMEMBER READING THAT. And I wanted it so bad just because of that. I never ended up with (MAC wasn’t easy to find in Middle Tennessee).

  2. Oh, man. I live in LA and sometimes stuff seemed so difficult to get. I can’t imagine the distance of middle Tennessee! Seems so quint and old fashioned now not to have something at the click of a button, which explains why I bought urban decay’s matte lipstick in “1993” . I think I should have stuck with toast of New York. So much nostalgia going on.

    1. Isn’t it crazy? I was thinking about this. We can get anything we want with a click of the button – international products, niche, indie, hard-to-find. It’s so easy YET we still have cult products. I remember the first time I got my hands on a Demeter fragrance and the first time I bought a MAC lipstick.

We aren’t the only ones feeling nostalgic right now 🙂 I’m OK with it.
