The Lipstick League – Week of 7.20.15
Question of the Week: When it comes to brows, do you tend to gravitate toward pencils, gels, or powders?
EauMG’s Answer: This year I grew out my brows. Yes, grew them out. I have been (well adults did it too) waxing and tweezing since I was 10 years old. It’s time to see what’s really there. My brows are wreck but in this totally punk way I love it. The beauty blogging and beauty social media world is obsessed with really “perfect” brows with well defined arches, never a stray hair in sight. And I admit, I was the same way. I was OCD about it (like seriously). I wanted to tell strangers what to do to their brows so that they too, could be perfect. Growing out my brows has been so liberating. It’s punk as hell. Friends wonder if I’m OK, overly stressed from the events of 2015. Beauty friends give me unsolicited advice on how to look beautiful again. It’s been weird but really interesting. I had no idea brows had so much power. Well, I mean, I did. I just didn’t expect for every damn person to have an opinion.
Anyway, my current routine is punk and repulsive and nobody wants to know. But, I’ll tell you in on it anyway. I often thicken or define my brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Taupe with the angled end of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Synthetic Duo Brush. Then with the spoolie side, I brush up my brows so that they are messy and spiky, like a puffer fish intimidating predators. I then set it with the glossy finish Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel. On days when I want less dramatic brows. I lightly fill in with Lancôme Le Crayon Poudre in Blonde. And then with the clear brow gel, I brush up my inner corners of brows and then smooth the arch, for a messy-ish but not crazy look. I’m not really into powders but sometimes I’ll use various matte eyeshadows and apply with an angled brush. And some days I’ll just set my brows with the clear gel.
In a few more months, I plan on scheduling an appointment with brow artist Joey Healy since I trust his work. Maybe he’ll clean it up and the unsolicited advice will surely wane. Until then, I’ve enjoyed having lazy, pain-free brows. And I’m also not ever going to tell anyone what to do with their brows unless they ask me. Because that shit is obnoxious.

I feel the same about my brows, I tweeze a little here and there but on the most part I leave them pretty unruly and thick. Untouched brows look youthful and carefree 🙂
I’m really digging the look. It is laidback. My hair texture is straight and thick. I’m envious of folks that can pull back their hair or not brush it and it looks all boho and beautiful. I feel like brows are really the only “youthful and carefree” thing I can do with my hair.
Oh yeh I have the same issue with my hair, as my mother would say, “it looks like a mad woman’s breakfast!” LOL.
I’m currently on a quest to grow mine out. Dammit, nineties! For the most part they are fine with only a little sparseness on each one but I also have tichotillomania. Every time I look in the mirror it’s a struggle but they aren’t terrible looking. I had a bald spot on my head but I feel that was easier to not pick at since I couldn’t see it. Eyebrows I see all the time. But my dream is to also grow them out and have a professional groom them. Someday!
Good luck! I know how hard that is. I think you can get there 🙂
I was looking at his prices. They aren’t bad because I know I can maintain them on my own. I just want someone with a good eye to tell me what to do with them, lol. I can do the boring maintenance part.
