The Lipstick League – Week of 2.12.18

Question of the Week: Which is better, Sephora or Ulta?

EauMG’s Answer: This is too tough of a question for me. I genuinely like both but for different things. I like Sephora for their selection of brands. They are the only place where I can buy certain brands. I also think over the  years that their perfume selection has improved immensely. But, I also like Ulta for their mix of high/low and the fact they always have sales/coupons. It really depends on what I’m looking for and that depends on where I’ll shop. I actually like to shop Ulta online over in-store but if I’m shopping in-store I prefer Sephora.

Beautygeeks is Currently Craving: Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream. Long a fan of peptides as an aging-well ingredient, she’s intensely curious about this formula that features “plant-derived peptide growth factors” as cell-turnover boosters.

  1. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a perfume in Ulta–Sephora has more of what I like in fragrances. I hit both stores for makeup, but buy different brands in each. As you say, I like the high/low mix in Ulta.

Since you did a whole week of roses, let me ask: have you ever (knowingly or accidentally) applied a room fragrance spray as a perfume? Because I did that once with some rose-geranium concoction(Deborah Michel, I think) and I was like, “Wow, this stuff is MAJOR.” It wasn’t at all bad on me–the geranium gave a weirdly wonderful tang to the rose fragrance–but I can see where it wasn’t meant for perfume! The packaging was so lovely I think that was what threw me off. 😎

    1. I’m pretty sure I’ve never bought a perfume from Ulta. I’m trying to remember if I’ve bought anything from Sephora. I think back in the day I’d buy my Guerlain Aqua Allegoria perfumes from them.

Haha, yes. It was Santa Maria Novella. The gal working there tried to make me feel not like a dunce by saying that they could also be worn on body…no clue if that was true or she was just trying to make me feel better!

Oh, have you tried the Deborah Michel drawer papers? It’s a totally useless/unnecessary product but I love them. Her prints are so fab and having them make me feel like a posh lady.
