The Lipstick League – Week of 10.26.15
Question of the Week: How do you change your facial skincare ritual for cooler months?
EauMG’s Answer: This will be my first winter in the tri-state area so I feel it’s going to be a learning curve…again. In Seattle, my skin would get drier in the cooler months but here, I think my skin is going to need a lot of TLC. In the past, I usually switch to an oil or balm cleanser for morning and night. I have dry skin so I usually switch to thicker creams or add oil into my moisturizers. I want everything creamier, butterier and balmier. I want my skin to feel comfortable and also look dewy. I also like to add (if I’m not already using them) serums with a hint of illumination to counteract some of that winter dullness.

I was just commenting earlier today to my boyfriend that my skin is so sensitive to changes in seasons now. Also, I’m such a pansy because I’ve lived my whole life in Los Angeles, never having to deal with a “real” winter and my skin now freaks out if the temp drops just a bit. I can’t imagine what would happen if I lived some place where it actually got cold! I have some Nuxe merveillance expert lifting serum arriving tomorrow. I don’t really like the smell but it works great when my skin is dry. And today I had to use Josie Maran argon sunscreen. Mind you, Halloween had a high of 90 degrees but the day after tomorrow is supposed to 70. Can’t waiting to finally wear a cardigan!
90 degrees when it’s November-ish is cruel. I really hope you guys got that cooler weather!
Even though you don’t experience extreme seasons, it’s still really extreme to swing 20+ degrees in a day. This will mess with skin (humidity, all that stuff). I’m actually scared to go through a real winter, especially one that I have to be outside in. In Seattle, my skin was sensitive to the changes. I have no idea how it’s going to do here but I think it’s going to be really mad at me.
Do you like that JM sunscreen? Is it moisturizing? I’m almost out of my Coola which I adore but I need to start thinking about products with a richer feel for the upcoming months. And I need tubs of Aquaphor around because my skin is going to get chapped. And I need to buy some oils. I’m using a few samples now but I need to give in and buy some full-size bottles. I like the Sunday Riley ones and may splurge on those.
Boy, did we get that cooler weather! It even rained which of course no one knows how to drive in so a 15min drive took 50 mins. Thanks guys! Anyway, I like the JM sunscreen well enough. It does go on thicker than what I’m used to, and it takes a bit of rubbing in to spread it and get rid of the white cast but it doesn’t take long. My skin is very happy afterward so I guess that’s a win. The great thing about this time of year is every brand has gift sets out! I actually bought the small bottle gift set of the sunscreen and argon oil. It was only $16 which is just $2 more than a single bottle, so it’s a good deal. I think the argon oil is just ok, but still a deal. I love the Sunday Riley Luna oil. There’s also a gift set of that I’m debating on getting. I have quite a list for this Friday!
Btw, the tatcha camellia cleansing oil is awesome. I like it much better than the JM argon oil cleanser but of course it’s more expensive. Lush makes a balm cleanser that’s too emollient for my skin but my brother, who has drier skin, likes it. I’m sure you’ve tried it though;) The bad thing about Lush is you go in saying I’m only buying ONE thing! And of course you walk out $75 lighter.
It seems like a lot of the blogs that I read, that the Tatcha one is a lot of bloggers HG oil cleanser. I got a few samples of theirs from a recent Barneys purchase but didn’t get the oil.
I’ve tried that Lush one. I liked it. And yes, I try to avoid that store, especially since they are bringing out the holiday sets. Oh, which reminds me. I will be going in there for Rose Jam. I’m already stalking the stores for it.
I saw that from friends via social media! You guys get rain and everyone forgets how to drive 🙂
No-buy be damned. I’m going to take advantage of the holiday gift sets and the upcoming sales. It’s a good way to buy old favorites and to try new things.
Thanks for the head’s up on the Sunday Riley set. I didn’t know that brand did that.
