Rose Week 2016
Even if you are an occasional reader of EauMG, you probably have picked up that I love roses. I love rose fragrances, skincare and even as something to eat. I’m always looking for an excuse to sample and talk about rose perfumes. And this is why every year on February 14th, EauMG has “Rose Week”. YOSH U4EAHH! (euphoria) is the self-described “carefree” perfume in the collection. I knew I’d struggle with this one. It’s “carefree” and the notes are fruity. I tend to feel uncomfortable wearing stuff like this. I’m just not carefree enough. I’m not cute enough.
U4EAHH! is fruity with pears and melons. It starts to smell like cucumbers and watermelon Jolly Ranchers. Some of the “juiciness” remains and blooms into a dewy, cool floral with an ozonic musk. The heart reminds me of freshly sliced sour Granny Smith apples… Continue reading | 10 Comments
Ginger Ciao is my favorite of the YOSH perfumes. I wore it to a Gaugin exhibit and I’ve loved it ever since.
Ginger Ciao opens as night blooming flowers in the middle of the night. Imagine a place that is dark and quiet; the only thing speaking is this fragrance. I get orange blossoms, ylang ylang and this stunning floral humidity. It’s rugged, slightly raw which in my mind makes it passionate. Somewhere in there you pick up on freshly grated ginger. Within the niche market, it’s popular to offer soliflores and perfumes that smell like a place. What I’m surprised by is just how simple most niche perfumes smell like: fig tree, church incense, lipstick, etc. I’m not saying that anything is wrong with that. But, what I’ve noticed is that many niche lines aren’t doing “big” perfumes that smell like you know, perfume. YOSH Omniscent EDP is one of those big perfume-perfumes.

Last week I was in NYC. While I was there, I attended the Elements Showcase. This is a biannual highly-curated event that showcases niche perfumes as well as a few skincare and cosmetics brands organized by Frederick Bouchardy (Joya), Ulrich Lang and Jeffrey Lawson.
