Byredo Black Saffron Perfume Review

Byredo Black Saffron

It’s been a really busy summer for me so I haven’t been posting that many perfume reviews here on the blog. I recently had an oral surgery that forced me to slow down. I thought this would be a good time to catch up on some perfume samples I have that I have yet to sniff. Well, I haven’t. Deep into my malaise, I’ve only been craving a few fragrances. And oddly enough one of those is Byredo Black Saffron.

I’m always surprised by how fruity Black… Continue reading | 2 Comments

Etro Jacquard Perfume Review

Etro Jacquard

Hello, I’m only reviewing Etro Jacquard because I love the sunny, cheerful bottle.

The opening of a Jacquard is a bitter angelica. So, yeah, it smells a little bit like celery leaves and cedar pencil shavings. There’s a dry, spicy black pepper and bright citrus. As far as citrus go, this is a greener, drier citrus instead of a juicy, pulpy citrus. Then we get to the rest of the fragrance. It’s a sheer, powdery iris with a green violet. Anatole Lebreton Incarnata Perfume Review

Anatole Lebreton Incarnata

There are two types of perfumes that I get asked about frequently that apparently people really, really want to smell like. One of those is marijuana. Vilhelm Modest Mimosa Perfume Review

Vilhelm Modest Mimosa

But, what if I like my mimosas conceited?

Vilhelm Modest Mimosa opens with bright blossoms. It’s neroli and violet. It’s a green, tangy citrus blossom. Because it’s a tangy, lime-like floral, it manages to remind me of linden blossoms. There’s a green grassiness that just sort of completes the spring fantasy of this perfume. Don’t get me wrong, Modest Mimosa is a mimosa soliflore. But, in comparison to many others, it’s greener and brighter. This scent eventually fades into a white musk with powdery (but “fresh”) violets… Continue reading

Raw Spirit Perfume Reviews – A Roundup

Raw Spirit Winter Oak

Here’s three quick reviews of Raw Spirit perfumes:

WINTER OAK

Notes listed include clary sage, Italian bergamot, pepper, lemon, geranium, saffron, mate absolute, clove bud, olibanum, suede, oak, oakmoss, cedar, Haitian vetiver, patchouli and musk. Launched in 2014. PERFUMER – Harry Fremont

Winter Oak opens sort of foody like lemon pepper. It’s zesty-spicy. As it dries down, it’s like sage and yerba mate tea. So, it’s green, musky but there’s a bitter astringency. Like many of the other Raw Spirit perfumes… Continue reading
