Acqua di Parma Colonia Mirra Perfume Review

Aqua di Parma Mirra

Myrrh is one of those notes that I adore but it’s not an easy note to wear. Myrrh can be very acrid and bitter. Sometimes it’s cold, like in Serge Lutens La Myrrhe (one of my favorite perfumes). Other times it’s like waxy black licorice. And sometimes you get a whiff of myrrh that smells like the exhaust of a semi-truck. Of course, myrrh will also remind some people of church/mass.

Acqua di Parma launched Colonia Mirra, which is basically a “soliflore”/single note… Continue reading | 2 Comments

Raw Spirit Citadelle & Bijou Vert Perfume Reviews

Raw Spirit Perfumes

It’s so strange to me which “Destination Inspirations” keep repeatedly showing up in perfumery. If you made maps based solely on perfume inspirations it’d only consist of the Mediterranean, Hawaii and some vague Spice Route that encompasses whatever Europeans think isn’t European. I’m not really complaining about these inspirations, they’re beautiful places and I enjoy many perfumes with these inspirations. I’m just saying there are so many beautiful places in this world that are underrepresented in the world of perfumery (or at least perfume marketing)… Continue reading | 4 Comments

Escentric Molecules Molecule 04 & Escentric 04 Perfume Reviews

Escentric Molecules have a bit of a cult-following in world of niche perfume and in the world of fashionable people¹. But, it’s never really been a line that I’ve been drawn to despite liking the perfumes on other people. They’re the sort of perfumes that you wear for others and not yourself. I wear perfume for me.

Escentric Molecules has launched two/binary new perfumes in their minimalist collection, Molecule 04 and Escentric 04:

Escentric Molecules

MOLECULE 04

Molecule 04 is like a citrus-hued sandalwood. It’s dry, woodsy and… Continue reading | 3 Comments

Phuong Dang Cryptic Extrait Perfume Review

Phuong Dang Cryptic

Phuong Dang is a line of niche perfumes founded by a Vietnamese visual artist that resides in Singapore. The Noses of the perfumers are French and people you’ve probably heard of. Months ago, I reviewed Liquid Red, a perfume that reminds me of fancy French cosmetics and partying all night. Being a rose lover, I decided to try another leather-rose in the line, Cryptic.

There’s not much to know about Cryptic other than it’s a dark, leather rose. It opens with dry/brut champagne aldehydes. At first… Continue reading

Le Jardin Retrouve Cuir de Russie EDP Perfume Review

Le Jardin Cuir de Russie

Le Jardin Retrouvé has been revived. Originally founded in 1975, Le Jardin Retrouvé is “OG niche”. The perfumer and founder of the brand (and co-founder of the Osmothèque) passed away in 2005. Now Yuri’s son and daughter-in-law are keeping the legacy alive. The brand currently has seven fragrances based on Yuri’s original formulas.

I’ve tried the entire brand. There are many that I like but there’s one that I keep reaching for: Cuir de Russie. Like an amber, many heritage perfume… Continue reading | 1 Comment
