Mainstream Monday: Sniffing a Popular Perfume
The past few years have been good for Gucci. Basically, you see it everywhere…again. For myself, I have an interest in Gucci again. So, when Bloom came out, the first perfume by creative director Alessandro Michele, I should have been excited. But, the deal is that Gucci, as fragrances, aren’t very cohesive in comparison to other designer perfume brands like Prada (which all seem “related”) or even Tom Ford. Coquillete Paris Moramanga is a perfume that wants to celebrate the glorious olfactory materials of Africa. And yes, that’s a huge continent to pull inspiration from. YET, so many perfume brands seem to ignore this huge region that is full of lovely raw ingredients. This is why I ordered a sample of Moramanga. Amouage has launched two new perfumes, Figment Woman and Figment Man.¹ They’re the two in the pretty aqua/blue bottles. Nectar of Love is a sweet white floral. It opens with citrus, but not… Continue reading
Neela Vermeire Creations Pichola is a perfume inspired by reflections over Lake Pichola. Pichola is perfume of radiance.
Pichola opens as a spicy orange blossom. It’s like a splash of orange blossom water with sliced lemons. Added into this is a simple syrup composed of sugar and warm spices. I feel like if yellow topaz could have a smell, it would smell like this opening. The heart of Pichola is a floral bouquet of tuberose, a waxy jasmine and lemon-kissed magnolia petals. It’s heady and warmed… Continue reading | 9 Comments
