Pekji Ruh Perfume Review

ROSE WEEK 2019  – A Coffee Rose

It’s Rose Week on EauMG! This is the annual celebration of rose-centric perfumes! This week I’m reviewing 5 fragrances that display a different aspect of rose perfumes.

Pekji is an indie brand of perfumes based in Istanbul that is now available in the U.S. I should probably start out this review with a disclaimer that the perfumer was a friend of mine before he launched his brand. It’s not uncommon that such a relatively small niche would bring people together and they’d become friends, right? I am throwing this out… Continue reading | 9 Comments

Viktor & Rolf Magic Dancing Roses Perfume Review

ROSE WEEK 2019 – A Saffron Rose

It’s Rose Week on EauMG! This is the annual celebration of rose-centric perfumes! This week I’m reviewing 5 fragrances that display a different aspect of rose perfumes.

Viktor and Rolf Magic Dancing Roses is a fruity rose. Initially, I get a large swig of cherry-scented brandy. The opening is spiced with a leather-y undertone BUT it’s still airy, light and fruity. (and BOOZY because of that cherry). This is like a saffron rose shimmering in gossamer. The saffron and spice in this vaguely reminds me of things like Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge

Amouroud Agarwood Noir & Oud After Dark Perfume Reviews

Amouroud Perfumes

OK, I get it. You’re probably sick of hearing about oud perfumes. But, hear me out. Amouroud is a line of perfumes that may have “oud” in its title, but it uses oud as a seasoning instead of a main dish. Today I’m doing a 2-for-1 review because the note lists of these two *sound* similar but the perfumes themselves are not.¹

AGARWOOD NOIR

Notes listed include include apricot, saffron, pink pepper, jasmine, rose, oud, leather, moss, vanilla and vetiver. Launched in 2016.

The opening of Agarwood Noir reminds me of osmanthus… Continue reading

Vilhelm Smoke Show & The Oud Affair Perfume Reviews

Today I’ll review two of the oud-y perfumes from niche brand Vilhelm.

Vilhelm Smoke Show

SMOKE SHOW

Notes listed include pink pepper, saffron, rose, leather, vetiver, cedar and oud. Launched in 2015. PERFUMER – Jerome Epinette

Firstly, let me display my dorkiness by stating that I can’t even read the name “Smoke Show” without it being Marilyn Manson’s voice in “The Dope Show”¹. So, you should do that too because it’s more fun that way.

The opening of Smoke Show is fruity. It reminds me of red… Continue reading | 2 Comments

Amouroud Safran Rare Perfume Review

Amouroud Safran Oud

Amouroud Safran Rare is getting some buzz in the Perfume World and for a rightful reason: It smells good.

The opening of Safran Rare reminds me of if you had a really fancy perfume sample and spilled all in the bottom of your new leather bag. It’s spicy and slightly floral, but overall, it’s very leathery. There’s a prominent raspberry note. It wears as a leathery saffron with a lift from dry spices and a lemon-y frankincense. The heart introduces a jammy rose (like roses, honey… Continue reading
