Mainstream Monday: Sniffing a Popular Perfume

A couple New Year’s Days ago, I was washing my hands after making enough tamales to feed a multi-generational familial unit. I glanced into the mirror and saw something light at my center part. Thinking it was masa, I went to wipe it off. It didn’t budge. Upon further inspection, I was mortified. There they were. Gray hairs. It was like they popped up overnight to ring in the new year. I didn’t feel old. WHY WAS MY BODY DOING THIS TO ME?

Yes, I know… Continue reading | 2 Comments

PURPLE FLOWERS WEEK 2018

It’s an annual tradition on EauMG to feature “purple flowers” on the week of Nowruz/Vernal Equinox. “Purple flowers” are what I call flowers that (usually) have purple blossoms and bloom in spring: lilacs, violets, iris, heliotrope, hyacinth and wisteria (when I’m feeling generous). Rancé 1795 Laetitia EDP Perfume Review

Rance Laetitia perfume

My review of Gucci Bloom from earlier this week reminded me of entire genres of perfumes that I used to wear all of the time. I would wear pretty white florals or smooth, warm amber/patchouli fragrances like Prada (which is now called “original” or “Amber”).  Those were my jam. Here I am in 2018 and I rarely ever wear fragrances like that. Since I’m revisiting these, I remembered that Rancé Laetitia is a patchouli-heavy amber-style fragrance that reminds me of my beloved original Prada.

Acqua di Parma Colonia Mirra Perfume Review

Aqua di Parma Mirra

Myrrh is one of those notes that I adore but it’s not an easy note to wear. Myrrh can be very acrid and bitter. Sometimes it’s cold, like in Serge Lutens La Myrrhe (one of my favorite perfumes). Other times it’s like waxy black licorice. And sometimes you get a whiff of myrrh that smells like the exhaust of a semi-truck. Of course, myrrh will also remind some people of church/mass.

Acqua di Parma launched Colonia Mirra, which is basically a “soliflore”/single note interpretation of this epic… Continue reading | 2 Comments
