1930’s Fashion – Get the Makeup Look of Ruby Keeler

Ruby Keeler

I love this makeup look of actress, singer, dancer and Broadway legend, Ruby Keeler.  It’s from the 1930’s but it is still a great look for now. Here’s what I did to get this look:

FACE: I evened out my complexion with Shiseido Stick Foundation in O20 and blended with my fingers. Under the eyes, I applied MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC30 under the eyes with a concealer brush. With a sponge, I applied Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent. More of the 1920’s: Get the Makeup Look of Barbara Lamarr

Barbara LaMarr’s look is quite the Betty Boop look, huh? Here’s my attempt to recreate this look for the modern day. I’m not very happy with my final outcome. I could not get the right lighting!  For some reason I kept coming out excessively pink. Sunburn from the rare winter sunshine in Western Washington? I think not.

More 1920’s Fashion: Get the Makeup Look of Billie Dove

Photoplay 1929 Billie DoveJanuary 1929 (www.classichollywoodbios.com)

I recently got my hair cut in a bob with bangs. I was going for more of a flapper look but it looks more like a 70’s take on the 20’s.  Or better yet early 90’s Industrial fan. This is cool and I’m happy with it. Every fall I seem to get really inspired by the 20’s and 30’s. Living in a rainforest, literally, I wear lots of hats in the fall/winter. I guess this is why I crave these… Continue reading | 6 Comments

NARS Fall 2010 Color Collection

NARS Fall 2010

NARS autumn 2010 color collection is “Old Hollywood meets futuristic look”. Are we talking Metropolis here? Regardless, the concept is quite dreamy. I’m a vintage and sci-fi geek so the thought of this tickles my soul. This collection is all about the bold. That’s why NARS is one of my favorite brands. NARS has also featured his muse, Daphne Guinness. I really do like her, but everyone is making such a fuss that NARS named a color after her. Have they forgotten that this trend setter has her… Continue reading | 2 Comments
