It seemed like for a few years in niche perfume, there really was an “oud du jour”. Everyone was launching an oud perfume, or at least a perfume with the word “oud” in its title. I don’t know if Amouroud is joking about this or if “Oud du Jour” is a fun thing to say (because it is).
Amouroud Oud du Jour opens with dry spices and a fruity raspberry. This may sound like some sort of fruity-floral opening, but it isn’t. This is the sort… Continue reading
Today I’ll review two of the oud-y perfumes from niche brand Vilhelm.
Notes listed include pink pepper, saffron, rose, leather, vetiver, cedar and oud. Launched in 2015. PERFUMER – Jerome Epinette
Firstly, let me display my dorkiness by stating that I can’t even read the name “Smoke Show” without it being Marilyn Manson’s voice in “The Dope Show”¹. So, you should do that too because it’s more fun that way.
The opening of Smoke Show is fruity. It reminds me of red… Continue reading | 2 Comments
Like many other designer brands, Thierry Mugler has also launched a line of “exclusive” (AKA more expensive) line-up of perfumes sold at select locations and costs a lot more than their other fragrances. I guess this shouldn’t surprise me since everyone has a more expensive, limited distributed line of perfumes all in uniform bottles. But, I guess this is also what surprised me. David Jourquin is a niche, French line of perfumes that specializes in leather fragrances. Cuir Altesee is a self-described “evening fragrance”. It’s actually the only perfume (so far) that I’ve tried from the line.
Cuir Altesee has an opening that is dense but luminescent. It’s like peaches, orange, spices and tons of patchouli. It’s like cinnamon and bourbon. It’s bitter, bold and somehow bright. To my surprise, there is a rich “cigar accord” in Cuir Altesee. I say I’m surprised because it’s not listed in the… Continue reading | 4 Comments
Last week I reviewed the Pure Collection by Precious Liquid¹. This is a new perfume brand that offers three perfume collections (Exquisite, Pure and Texture) that contain three perfumes each. These are meant to wear alone or even to layer using the brand’s 3D Layering.
Notes listed include rose centifolia, Australian sandalwood, amber, Bulgarian rose, cassis berry and clean musks.
Roses is a red, berry-hued rose soliflore. The opening has some bright aldehydes and green leaves with the rose. It reminds me of lush, velvety burgundy rose petals… Continue reading | 8 Comments
