Alkemia Perfume Reviews – Sea Inspired Scents

Alkemia perfume reviews

The Beach Eaus – A month of beach and ocean inspired perfumes.

Alkemia is an indie perfume line that mainly focuses on affordable perfume oils. It’s a brand that was brought to my attention via my Instagram stories when I asked about “perfumes for work”. Sure, you can wear whatever you want to work but I try to not be too distracting in our open floor plan. Big Sur was recommended to me. Since all the perfumes are cheap, I bought… Continue reading | 8 Comments

Amouroud Oud du Jour Perfume Review

Amouroud Oud du Jour

It seemed like for a few years in niche perfume, there really was an “oud du jour”. Everyone was launching an oud perfume, or at least a perfume with the word “oud” in its title. I don’t know if Amouroud is joking about this or if “Oud du Jour” is a fun thing to say (because it is).

Amouroud Oud du Jour opens with dry spices and a fruity raspberry. This may sound like some sort of fruity-floral opening, but it isn’t. This is the sort… Continue reading

Vilhelm Don’t Tell Jasmine Perfume Review

Vilhelm Don't Tell Jasmine

I like Vilhelm Don’t Tell Jasmine because it reminds me of glamorous, rowdy 70’s supermodels like Jerry Hall and oddly enough, nights in Mexico. Also, it’s jasmine. And I love jasmine.

Don’t Tell Jasmine opens with a fruity crème de cassis that immediately brought to mind a kir royale. The citrus adds a champagne-like effervescence. Underneath all of this is a skanky jasmine. If you are sampling this, I really hope you like jasmine because that’s what this perfume is all about! It’s a big jasmine… Continue reading

Elizabeth & James Nirvana Bourbon EDP Perfume Review

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon

Mainstream Monday: Sniffing a Popular Perfume

When the fashion label Elizabeth & James launched Nirvana Bourbon and Nirvana Rose, I knew that Nirvana Bourbon would be a hit for them. Vanilla fragrances are popular because their smooth, sweetness seems to appeal to everyone¹. After trying Nirvana Bourbon, I was impressed. It’s a dry, boozy vanilla that differs from the usual sweet/candied designer/mainstream vanillas. I did state that I prefer Nirvana Rose (after all, I’m a rose lover) but this doesn’t mean… Continue reading | 12 Comments

Tom Ford Orchid Soleil EDP Perfume Review

Tom Ford Orchid Soleil

Mainstream Monday – Sniffing a Popular Perfume

As a designer, Tom Ford is known for “sex appeal”. Apparently, this means exposing a lot of skin, wearing a lot of shiny things at once and never underestimating the power of a glossy lip. When you see the “sex appeal” that Tom Ford constructs, you can tell this is a guy who grew up in Texas and has enjoyed many nights in disco-glamour-era NYC. He’s all about a mix of leopard prints, bronzed skin, fur, stilettos, daring necklines and… Continue reading | 11 Comments
