Luigi Borrelli Napoli Perfume Reviews

Luigi Borrelli fragrances

Bartenders in New York City area secretly fragrance connoisseurs.

Last summer I was at a swanky bar at a weird time. Somehow I had gotten the times incorrect for an early dinner and had time to kill. I was at the bar with another person and a very talkative bartender. Long story short, it’s New York City, so you never know how any awkward encounter will end up or who is at the bar with you. It ends up after a brief conversation that the bartender, The… Continue reading | 2 Comments

Edward Bess Genre Perfume Review

Edward Bess Genre

I’ve always been intimidated by horses. I rightfully should be. I have no experience with them; I’ve never rode one. They’re huge, powerful creatures that really don’t need me. Like most things intimidating, I’m intrigued by them. So, when I look them it’s equal parts awe and also “this thing could kill me”.  They’re gorgeous huge, powerful creatures. I love them and basically all of the imagery they represent. I may not have any experience with horses but many people have. I imagine that makeup artist Edward Bess is one… Continue reading

MariaLux Yours Deeply Perfume Review

Maria Lux Yours Deeply

It’s technically spring in the Northern Hemisphere and I’m over here wearing perfumes that smell like autumn. MariaLux Yours Deeply is one of those spicy, boozy perfumes that manages to smell rich, dark, deep…indulgent.

Yours Deeply is a rich, deep fragrance. It opens with an animalic honey and a barnyard oud. The spices, the honeyed sweetness and candied citrus keeps this perfume from being, well… Continue reading | 2 Comments

Stephane Humbert Lucas 777 Wish Come True Perfume Review

Stephane Humbert Lucas Wish Come True

When I first saw the bottle of Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 Wish Come True, I had no desire to try the perfume. It looks like a weird Christmas ornament on a giant mall tree. I also thought the name was corny. I later put together that this is one of those French brands inspired by the Middle East. So, I think is some sort of “Aladdin”-ish thing. Anyway, I’m happy I tried it because it’s way more interesting than I initially expected.

Parfumerie Generale 19 Louanges Profanes Perfume Review

Parfumerie Generale 19

Parfumerie Générale Louanges Profanes is a perfume wreathed in Biblical symbolism. When I wear the perfume, this makes sense. It’s somewhere between a pious grand-tante and Madonna’s The Immaculate Collection.

Louanges Profanes opens with a mothball-like lily and a lacquered jewelry chest. To summarize, it’s an indolic floral with sparkling notes and smooth woods. The floral is a funeral-style Asiatic lily, which I love. Louanges Profanes takes me all over the place. It starts to remind me of cherry-scented lip balm and nag champa incense (how angsty 13… Continue reading | 4 Comments
