I tend to like Hermès perfumes. They’re my sophisticated yet “safe” daily wear perfumes. I haven’t loved them all at first sniff. This is one of the reasons that I’ve kept sampling Jour d’Hermès. It’s a year later and I still can’t decided what I think about this one. Some days I think it is a genius “fantasy garden” floral perfume. Other days I think that it would make the best smelling shampoo in the world.
Hermès Hermèssence Ambre Narguile is Ellena’s interpretation of a hookah lounge. It’s meant to be a spicy, fruity tobacco. And it is. But, what I get isn’t hookah. I get all of the best aromas of winter.
Gingerbread. And hot apple cider. Ambre Narguile is a warm blend of cinnamon, clove, allspice, honey, lemon and ginger. There’s a fruity apple tobacco. The dry-down is a warm, honeyed amber with a faint traces of that apple tobacco.
Hermes Santal Massoïa reminds me of an impressionistic painting of fog. It’s a soft, misty suede woods. A must try fragrance for anyone interested in perfume or for anyone curious about Jean-Claude Ellena’s signature style.
Santal Massoïa is a suede wood that opens with a bitter fig and rubbery aloe vera. It’s misty and muted, reminds me of a “greige” shade. Up close I get a black licorice and creamy woods and this is what Santal Massoïa dries down to – bitter woods.
Let me introduce you to one of my favorite vetiver fragrances ever.
Hermès Hermessence Vetiver Tonka smells like a vetiver caramel latte. The hazelnut in this comes across as coffee beans to me. The fragrance has that abstract sheerness that it appears that only Ellena can do successfully. It’s a slightly salty vetiver, green and gourmand with better-than-vanilla tonka beans. It’s warm and slightly smoky.
Notes listed include vetiver, hazelnut, praline and
This post is dedicated to all of the masucline perfumes that I enjoy smelling on men and not myself. I wear many masculine fragrances. I think Dior Homme, Caron Pour Un Homme and Chanel Pour Monsieur are some of the best masculines ever. BUT I wear these myself. This list is dedicated to those masculines that I absolutely adore and wouldn’t wear on myself. Why wouldn’t I wear them? They are just too darn masculine and “manly” for me. This are the ones I want to smell on a man.
