Alchemologie Foret de la Mer Natural Perfume Review

Alchemologie Foret de la Mer

One of the things that I’m missing about Washington, now that it’s summer, is the lavender. This is the time of year that we’d go up the Olympic peninsula and sniff lavender in the rain shadow. Weekends of acres and acres of lavender, warm pleasant weather with a salt water breeze. It was a summer ritual and now I miss it. However, when I tried the newest release from natural indie line Alchemologie, I’m a little closer to this summer ritual. Foret de la Mer… Continue reading | 4 Comments

Tauer PHI Une Rose de Kandahar EDP Perfume Review

Tauer Phi EDP

Tauer PHI Une Rose de Kandahar is a perfume inspired by roses grown in Afghanistan. Being that it is a perfume containing actual roses from Kandahar, availability is rather “iffy” with this one due to the harvest and logistics of getting rose oil out of the region. Phi is a spicy rose. In the beginning… Continue reading | 6 Comments

Alchemologie Sol de la Foret Natural Perfume Review

Alchemologie Sol de la Foret

Alchemologie Sol de la Foret is a natural perfumer’s take on the classic fougère. This perfume is overflowing with coumarin and herbs – a harmony of bitter and sweet.

Sol de la Foret opens with a cooling artemisia and lavender. It reminds me of absinthe and caramel. Fougères are on a spectrum, varying from light to dark. Sol de la Foret is a dark as a forest during the new moon. The heart introduces a spicy, clove-like carnation floral with a musky sage, still… Continue reading | 6 Comments

JoAnne Bassett Vert EDP Natural Perfume Review

JoAnne Bassett Vert

Joanne Bassett Vert is a perfume in the More Life Collection. Vert is a nice alternative for those that are looking for a natural fougère with a twist.

Vert opens with herbs and a sharp lavender.  It’s a refreshing “green” fragrance with dazzling citrus. Vert gets sweeter with wear. It’s not like dessert-sweet but it’s a balsamic vanilla that is a pleasant contrast to the bitter green citrus. Vert wears as herbal sweet. The dry-down is a boozy tonka-vanilla with cocoa powder.

If you like… Continue reading | 7 Comments

Penhaligon’s Sartorial EDT Perfume Review

Penhaligon's Sartorial

When guys of a certain age find out that I like perfume, they usually start asking me for recommendations. The conversation usually goes like “I’ve worn Ralph Lauren Polo Blue since I was a freshman in high school and I need an upgrade“. And I agree. They have real careers now and have already had a 10-15 year high school reunion. They need an upgrade from the fragrance with the matching “swag” gym bag their mom bought them in junior high. I try to keep my recommendations simple… Continue reading | 9 Comments
