Flankers – Miu Miu, Chloe and Dior Reviews

Mainstream Monday – Sniffing Popular Perfumes

This Monday I’m reviewing three flankers. What is a flanker? It’s a perfume that shares some attributes with a perfume that already exists (notes or even as much creative license as only sharing a name or similar bottle).

Miu Miu L'eau Bleue

Miu Miu L’Eau Bleue

Flanker to Miu Miu EDP

Notes listed include lily-of-the-valley, green notes, honeysuckle, Akigalawood and oud. Launched in 2015. PERFUMER – Daniela Andrier

Mugler Alien Flora Futura Perfume Review

Mugler Alien Flora Futura

Mainstream Monday – Sniffing a Popular Perfume

Since it’s launch in 2005, there have been many flankers and limited edition compositions of the now-cult-classic Mugler Alien. Like the patchouli-chocolate Angel, there’s just something people love about this over-the-top radiant jasmine in the purple scarab-esque bottle! I enjoy Alien but I have to be in the mood for it since it’s potent stuff (I can say the same about Angel too). I actually wear the more sheer version, Alien Eau Extraordinaire

Burberry My Burberry Black Perfume Review

Burberry My Burberry Black

Mainstream Monday – Sniffing a Popular Perfume

My Burberry Black is a flanker¹ to My Burberry. I’m sorry to disappoint. I don’t have a sample of the original so I can’t really do an accurate comparison. I had tried My Burberry before and remember liking it. Obviously, I didn’t like it enough to buy it, but I thought it was pleasant enough and fit with the Burberry brand.

To my surprise, My Burberry Black opens with pineapple. It’s ripe, sticky, sweet pineapple. So much pineapple! I guess there’s some grapefruit/citrus in… Continue reading | 4 Comments

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Perfume Review

YSL Black Opium

Mainstream Monday: Sniffing a Popular Perfume

It feels so cliché to be another perfume blogger that complains about a flanker of a classic perfume that’s geared to young’uns, but I can’t help it. I went in with an open mind when I sampled Black Opium. I *knew* it wouldn’t resemble the original Opium in any shape way or form. I had a feeling it’d be another sweet fragrance with a patchouli base – the mainstream “noir” recipe. Keep in mind, I love Mugler Angel Muse and I’m… Continue reading | 18 Comments

Lancome Tresor in Love EDP Perfume Review

Lancome Tresor in Love

Mainstream Monday – Sniffing a Popular Perfume

Oh, flankers¹! Do we love to hate them or hate to love them? I think in most instances, flankers are completely unwarranted². Why crowd the shelves with slight variations of the same theme? Or even worse, why make a perfume that suggests that it’s related to its epic namesake and instead give us some generic pink pepper floral? When it comes to flankers in Perfume World, many of us have very impassioned feelings towards these “scent sequels”.

Personally… Continue reading | 2 Comments
