The Lipstick League – week of 12.1.14

Question of the Week: So let’s hear it. Did you make any Black Friday/Cyber Monday beauty purchases? Spill the beans!

EauMG’s Answer: Well, it sure was tempting but I didn’t buy anything. Hard to believe, I know. There were plenty of great deals but I didn’t *need* anything so I didn’t buy anything. I’m trying to save up for a trip in the next few months. I’m amazed by my willpower at this time. What about you?

Question of the Week: False Lashes: Love ‘em or leave ‘em?

EauMG’s Answer: It’s funny because I used to wear false lashes daily and now I’m like “whatever”. I go through phases like that. I have wore them maybe once in the past year. I really do like the look and they really aren’t difficult to apply, but I’m sort of in a “minimalist” phase right now and I actually like less “dramatic” eye makeup at this time.

1930’s Fashion: Get the Makeup Look of Wendy Barrie

1930's actress Wendy Barrie

OK, so this picture is enhanced with color. I don’t care. Wendy Barrie looks adorable in her red polka dot dress and rich red lips. This is such a pretty dolly girl look. So, here’ s my interpretation of this 1930’s look:

FACE: The complexion is porcelain and perfect. I covered up imperfections with MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC20 using my Bobbi Brown Concealer Brush. With the sponge include, I applied Lancôme Dual Finish in Matte

More of the 1920’s: Get the Makeup Look of Barbara Lamarr

Barbara LaMarr’s look is quite the Betty Boop look, huh? Here’s my attempt to recreate this look for the modern day. I’m not very happy with my final outcome. I could not get the right lighting!  For some reason I kept coming out excessively pink. Sunburn from the rare winter sunshine in Western Washington? I think not.

FACE: First, I apply foundation. I use Shisiedo Stick Foundation in 040. I blend with fingertips. Apply concealer where needed. I applied MAC Studio Finish Concealer under… Continue reading | 10 Comments

More 1920’s Fashion: Get the Makeup Look of Billie Dove

Photoplay 1929 Billie DoveJanuary 1929 (www.classichollywoodbios.com)

I recently got my hair cut in a bob with bangs. I was going for more of a flapper look but it looks more like a 70’s take on the 20’s.  Or better yet early 90’s Industrial fan. This is cool and I’m happy with it. Every fall I seem to get really inspired by the 20’s and 30’s. Living in a rainforest, literally, I wear lots of hats in the fall/winter. I guess this is why I crave these fashion… Continue reading | 6 Comments
