Created over 30 years after the original Oscar, Esprit d’Oscar is much better than the original. Original Oscar was undeniably popular. Fine and functional fragrances wanted to be like Oscar. Unfortunately this popularity destroyed Oscar. It is now viewed as “dated” instead of a classic. Esprit d’Oscar, launched in 2011, smells more “classic” than the original!

Perfumer, Ernest Daltroff created the yin and yang of narcissus perfumes in the early 20th century. Narcisse Noir was created in 1911. Eleven years later the world was ready for Narcisse Blanc.

Narcisse Blanc opens with a peppery citrus and a neroli with an oily viscosity. It’s odd because I expect for most neroli scents to be light, airy and sheer like an eau de cologne. Penhaligon’s Violetta was created in 1976 but has the scary blue shade of a 1990’s club cocktail. The perfume house describes Violetta as a “dark, dusky and mysterious” violet soliflore fragrance. I disagree. Violetta is an amplified, potent violet. It’s like looking at violet with a magnifying glass and there isn’t anything dark or mysterious about that.

I’m an Estee Lauder fan girl. Estee Lauder fragrances are attainable, affordable and well-done. Out of all of the Estee Lauder scents, Cinnabar, the spicy floral, is the most “me”.

Cinnabar opens with this wonderful citrus floral nail polish. It’s classic Estee Lauder aldehydes and fruits. I get this antiqued, charming peach and stewed plum. Anny Ondra was a Czech actress that played in a few very, very early Hitchcock thrillers. I love this pic of her because it’s very modern. This is wearable 1920’s makeup.
