Oscar de la Renta Esprit d’Oscar EDP Perfume Review

Esprit d'Oscar EDP

Mainstream Monday – Sniffing a Popular Perfume

Created over 30 years after the original Oscar, Esprit d’Oscar is much better than the original. Original Oscar was undeniably popular. Fine and functional fragrances wanted to be like Oscar. Unfortunately this popularity destroyed Oscar. It is now viewed as “dated” instead of a classic. Esprit d’Oscar, launched in 2011, smells more “classic” than the original!

Esprit d’Oscar opens with an optimistic citrus blend of lemon and something that reminds me of freshly rubbed lemon balm. The citrus mingle over… Continue reading | 10 Comments

Caron Narcisse Blanc Parfum Extrait Review

Caron Narcisse Blanc parfum

Perfumer, Ernest Daltroff created the yin and yang of narcissus perfumes in the early 20th century. Narcisse Noir was created in 1911. Eleven years later the world was ready for Narcisse Blanc.

Narcisse Blanc opens with a peppery citrus and a neroli with an oily viscosity. It’s odd because I expect for most neroli scents to be light, airy and sheer like an eau de cologne. Narcisse Blanc is neroli with an unpredictable thickness. Most neroli scents relate to air. Narcisse Blanc relates to air and earth. The… Continue reading | 5 Comments

Penhaligon’s Violetta EDT Perfume Review

Penhaligon's Violetta EDT fragrance

 Purple Flowers Week – 2012

Penhaligon’s Violetta was created in 1976 but has the scary blue shade of a 1990’s club cocktail. The perfume house describes Violetta as a “dark, dusky and mysterious” violet soliflore fragrance. I disagree. Violetta is an amplified, potent violet. It’s like looking at violet with a magnifying glass and there isn’t anything dark or mysterious about that.

Violetta opens up as very sweet candied violets. So, how is it different than other violet candy… Continue reading | 5 Comments

Estee Lauder Cinnabar EDP Perfume Video Review

Mainstream Monday – Sniffing a Popular Perfume

I’m an Estee Lauder fan girl. Estee Lauder fragrances are attainable, affordable and well-done. Out of all of the Estee Lauder scents, Cinnabar, the spicy floral, is the most “me”.

Estee Lauder Cinnabar EDP

Cinnabar opens with this wonderful citrus floral nail polish. It’s classic Estee Lauder aldehydes and fruits. I get this antiqued, charming peach and stewed plum. The scent gets dustier with spices, cinnamon and clove, over spicy, fresh florals. I feel that Cinnabar uses lily wonderfully, one… Continue reading | 14 Comments

1920’s Fashion – Get the Makeup Look of Anny Ondra

Actress Anny Ondra

Anny Ondra was a Czech actress that played in a few very, very early Hitchcock thrillers. I love this pic of her because it’s very modern. This is wearable 1920’s makeup. Everyone did not look like a “flapper” or at least what we think of when we think vampy lipstick flappers with blunt bangs. Here’s what I did to get an Anny Ondra inspired makeup look:

FACE: I applied Shiseido Stick Foundation in O20 and blended with a makeup sponge. Under… Continue reading | 10 Comments
