Arquiste Anima Dulcis EDP Perfume Review

Arquiste Anima Dulcis perfume

Anima Dulcis is by far the most sophisticated chocolate perfume on the market. It’s not too sweet. It isn’t paired with overpowering notes like patchouli or sandalwood. Anima Dulcis is chocolate perfume done right.

Anima Dulcis is a sweet and spicy Mexican hot chocolate. In the top I get a little bit of citrus with a “vanilla orchid” floral. The cocoa is present from the beginning. It’s dry, dark and delicious. The heart of this fragrance gets creamier with vanilla scented steamed milk and… Continue reading | 8 Comments

Tauer Pentachord Auburn EDP Perfume Review

Tauer Auburn

Two girls stand in front of the mirror, a reflection of made-up faces and jaundiced yellow tiles.

Jennifer, give me your lip gloss“, says Ronni as she fluffs her auburn hair and wishes she had her hairspray with her. Her mother has seized all possible inhalants. Damn Barbara Walters.

Jennifer hands her the lip gloss and they share tales of weekend escapades and awkward dates with boys they don’t even like. They hide in a stall and smoke Virginia Slims. Gloss covered cigarette butts go down the toilet with… Continue reading | 10 Comments

DSH Perfumes Secreti di Belle Donne EDP Perfume Review

DSH Perfumes Secreti di Belle Donne

Secreti di Belle Donne is the fragrance that represents Venice in DSH Perfumes’ Italian Splendor Collection. One time on Twitter, I tweeted that my SOTD (scent of the day) was “DSH Perfumes Secreti di Belle Nonne”. This caused a bit of a humorous uproar – Secret of the Beautiful Grannies. Secreti di Belle Donne opens up… Continue reading | 2 Comments

Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche EDP Perfume Review

Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche

Olfactive Studio is a line of perfumes inspired by photographs. You can find Lumiere Blanche’s inspiration below by photographer Massimo Vitali.

The liquid of Lumière Blanche is albugineous – diluted and milky. Lumiere Blanche opens as cardamom horchata. It’s spicy and dry with anise, cardamom, cinnamon and creamy with something that reminds me of sweetened almond milk. With time I get a cool, earthy iris and warm marzipan woods. The base is  “creamy woods”: a mix of “dry woods”, cedar, and creamy tonka. Lumière Blanche… Continue reading | 10 Comments

DSH Perfumes Euphorisme d’Opium EDP Perfume Review

DSH Perfumes Euphorisme d'Opium

Euphorisme d’Opium is in DSH Perfumes’ YSL Retrospective Collection for the Denver Art Museum. Can you guess which epic perfume this one is inspired by?

I think we often forget what a scandal YSL Opium was in 1977. In today’s world mega pop stars are bragging that their perfume smelling like “expensive hookers” and the media latches on to a statement about blood and semen. Countless mainstream perfumes outright sell sex. For example, there is a perfume line called “Sexual” and they have such… Continue reading | 5 Comments
