PURPLE FLOWERS WEEK 2017

It’s an annual tradition on EauMG to feature “purple flowers” on the week of Nowruz/Spring Equinox. “Purple flowers” are what I call flowers that (usually) have purple blossoms and bloom in spring: lilacs, violets, iris, heliotrope, hyacinth and wisteria (when I’m feeling generous). These are the sort of florals that make me think of spring. Plus, it gives me an excuse to talk about some of my favorite floral notes.

Nomenclature is a fairly new perfume brand that puts the focus on… Continue reading

ROSE WEEK 2017 – An Aquatic Rose

It’s Rose Week on EauMG! This is the annual celebration of rose-centric perfumes! This week I’m reviewing 6 fragrances that display a different aspect of rose perfumes.

Perfume World has such a need for interesting “Nouveau Aquatics”. Don’t get me wrong, there are interesting aquatics in niche (like House of Matriarch Albatross, CB I Hate Perfume At the Beach 1966, etc.); I just think there is a genre that more niche brands… Continue reading

Mainstream Monday – Sniffing a Popular Perfume

One of the most frustrating things about perfume is that unlike a lipstick of piece of fashion, words and images are helpful but they’ll never truly convey what’s in that bottle. You never know until you try it. Yes, you’ll have to try a foundation even though there are swatches online but you have to admit that with perfume, there’s no equivalent to a swatch.

Our first impressions of a perfume are usually visual. We may see… Continue reading | 6 Comments

Eric Buterbaugh FLORALS Fragile (Violet) EDP Perfume Review

Eric Buterbaugh Fragile

Seven Days of Eric Buterbaugh*

Eric Buterbaugh is a well-known floral designer based in Los Angeles. Last year, he launched a line of perfumes, Eric Buterbaugh FLORALS, inspired by the medium he knows best – flowers. The Noses work with Firmenich, creating many of my most-worn perfumes from designer to niche. I’m dedicating a week to reviewing this line because like Eric Buterbaugh, I too love florals.

Oh, violets. I love them so much. They’re so fragile, so delicate. Foolish humans have mostly… Continue reading | 3 Comments

MIKMOI Ao EDP Perfume Review

MIKMOI Ao

MIKMOI Ao is an aquatic floral perfume inspired by the bays and beaches of the Andaman Sea. Ao is one of those new aquatic pedigrees that won’t remind you of anything sold at malls in the 90’s. I love seeing indies newly interpret aquatic and ozonic fragrance genres. Ao is a sheer, veil-like aquatic with tropical fruits and florals that is a lovely olfactory tribute to Thai beaches.

Ao is ripe tropical fruits and tuberose. Salt air and smoky driftwood. When wearing Ao, it’s like being in a different… Continue reading | 10 Comments
