Today I share with you one of my favorite iris perfumes – Parfums DelRae Mythique.
Mythique opens with a fruity ivy with close to the ground violets. It’s metallic and green. Note to self – all perfumes inspired by prostitutes/mistresses smell metallic. I pick up on the faintest floral indoles. What I really get is iris. A demure, cool iris with absolutely no powderiness. The dry-down is this wonderful buttery iris with a vegetal musky ambrette. Mythique is slow to warm up. But, when she… Continue reading | 9 Comments
HEELEY Iris de Nuit has adcopy that says it’s an iris fragrance inspired by the iris root and not the flower. How novel! (Can you sense my sarcasm?) I won’t let this copy get in my way. Here we go…
Iris de Nuit is a soft, suede-like iris and violet. (I use suede-like as a texture, not as an aroma). It reminds me of violet candies with ambrette. So, it smells like violet candies and Musk Lifesavers. The fragrance is a musky… Continue reading | 4 Comments
Don’t you love to put on a sweater, a coat or a scarf and be surprised by how good it smells? That’s one of the benefits of being a fumehead in winter. Tom Ford Urban Musk from the White Musk Collection is described as “A musk of carnal passion, a sexy hedonistic scent that leaves an indelible and irresistible impression“. I really do not know where the name “urban” comes in but that is popular in perfumery. We all have an “urban” perfume stereotype, mine being CK1 and Bvlgari Black. But, what does “urban” actually mean? I really do not know where Tom Ford was going with this one. I’d never use the words “carnal“, “hedonistic” or “raw” to… Continue reading | 5 Comments
This is the 4th essence in the Les Orientalistes collection. This Annick Goutal collection is inspired by musk and rose loving Qatar princesses, an “Orientalist” collection. The cool thing about this scent is that it lacks “top notes”. It also doesn’t get its muskiness from direct animal sources. Lately, I’ve been smitten by musky ambrette seed and other “musk” plant sources. I’ve been craving “soft” scents. Musc Nomade is the ultimate soft musk scent. It is my favorite “soft musk” perfume.
Musc Goutal is beautiful. Throughout the wear it smells… Continue reading | 13 Comments
