Aether Arts Strawberry Sling & Iris Laughs Perfume Reviews

I’m reviewing two fruity fragrances from indie brand Aether Arts.

Aether Arts Strawberry Sling

STRAWBERRY SLING

We don’t usually see indie or niche brands tackle strawberry in perfume. The opening of Strawberry Sling is like sipping limoncello in an herb garden. It’s like a sweet, syrupy lemon and mint. It’s also ozonic, like a breeze. Strawberry Sling becomes even more tangy with an addition of juicy strawberries accompanying the tart lemon zest. What I like about Strawberry Sling is that it has greenness from herbs that keep it fresh… Continue reading

Aether Arts Magic Mushroom Perfume Oil Extrait Review

Aether Arts Magic Mushroom

The best thing about indie perfumery is its freedom to take a risk. This risk is why many of us follow indie (and niche) perfumery. We want to smell perfumes that don’t smell like other perfumes. Aether Arts Magic Mushroom took a risk to be a “gourmand mushroom” perfume. This may sound rather odd but quite a few botanical perfumes depend on mushrooms to add an animalic, earthy muskiness without relying on animal-derived ingredients.

Now most of these botanical perfumes that I’m thinking about use mushrooms to… Continue reading | 7 Comments

Aether Arts Reefer Madness Perfume Oil Review

Aether Arts Reefer Madness

A few years ago, I put together a guide of perfumes with marijuana accords. Since then, there’s been many more launched with the theme of “high perfumery”. In fact, Colorado based, Aether Arts, has an entire collection of fragrances dedicated to weed, The Cannabis Series.

Reefer Madness is the fourth perfume in this series. The name comes from the delightfully terrible exploitation “movie with a moral” turned midnight movie flick, Reefer Madness. To my surprise, this perfume brings to mind the… Continue reading | 4 Comments

Aether Arts Love for 3 Oranges Perfume Review

Aether Arts Love of 3 Oranges

Aether Arts Love for 3 Oranges is a perfume inspired by Prokofiev’s “A Love for Three Oranges”, an opera based on an Italian fairy tale that premiered in the early 1920’s. This scent is like being immersed into an orange grove. It’s the fruit, flowers and trees.

Love for 3 Orange opens really does open with juicy oranges. This perfume reverses the usual order of a birth of an orange. It gives us fruit then the orange blossoms and lastly, tree leaves. This… Continue reading | 4 Comments

Aether Arts Ginger Rose Perfume Review

Aether Arts Ginger Rose

Rose Week 2015

Aether Arts Ginger Rose is an indie perfume inspired by vintage beauties. It’s a 1940’s style aldehydic floral inspired by a fictional beauty, Miss Ginger Rose. The perfumer says, “The perfume took on a personality as it came together. I could see her in my mind’s eye: Miss Ginger Rose, an up-and-coming new starlet; or maybe a beautiful debutante, the darling of the society page. Who will you be when you wear Ginger Rose?”

Ginger Rose opens as a spicy ginger with… Continue reading
