Rose Week 2014
As you should know by now, I’m a rose lover. I love the versatility of this timeless floral. Roses are fluid. Roses can be anything. On my fragrance journey, I first fell for roses by falling for “dirty” roses, animalic roses. I liked the “badboy” roses. And I still like roses with an edge. Strange Invisible Perfumes Black Rosette really is a strange dirty rose. This is a punk rose.
Black Rosette opens as cool, astringent and minty. It’s a little awe-inducing yet scary, like icicles melting overhead. The scent is tannic, bitter and cold emphasizing the natural mintiness of rose. And if that wasn’t intimidating enough, let’s add some leather. At this stage, I’m very attracted to how “off-putting” this scent is. It’s punk. And those that know me, know that I like intimidating and borderline “appalling” fashions, and even fragrances (green florals, leather, etc.). Black Rosette starts to wear as a very natural version of Piguet Bandit on me. It’s sharp and green with a raunchy leather and rosewood. The dry-down is a a dry rose with a dirty patchouli. This is one intimidating badass rose from top to bottom.
Notes listed include roses, black tea, leather, and spearmint. Launched 2005. PERFUMER – Alexandra Balahoutis
Give Black Rosette a try if you like “unusual” roses. Or perfumes like Knize 10, Piguet Bandit, Pirouette Rose Musk, Etat Libre d’Orange Rien and/or LUSH The Smell of Weather Turning. To my nose, Black Rosette does smell “natural” which isn’t a bad thing. It shows us just how freakishly weird nature is, like those macro portraits of insects. Being a dirty rose, Black Rosette is unisex.
Projection and longevity are average.
The 1.7 oz. EDP retails for $385 at Strange Invisible Perfumes. Samples are also available for purchase.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – A punk leather rose. Weird but still beautiful. I do like Black Rosette because it’s punk. But, the price is too Vivienne Westwood Gold Label for my budget. The brand used to have more of a Vivienne Westwood Anglomania price range but they have new bottles and went up $165 (ouch).
