Strange Invisible Perfumes Black Rosette Natural Perfume Review

Strange Invisible Black Rosette

Rose Week 2014

As you should know by now, I’m a rose lover. I love the versatility of this timeless floral. Roses are fluid. Roses can be anything. On my fragrance journey, I first fell for roses by falling for “dirty” roses, animalic roses. I liked the “badboy” roses. And I still like roses with an edge. Strange Invisible Perfumes Black Rosette really is a strange dirty rose. This is a punk rose.

Black Rosette opens as cool, astringent and minty. It’s a little awe-inducing yet scary, like icicles melting overhead. The scent is tannic, bitter and cold emphasizing the natural mintiness of rose. And if that wasn’t intimidating enough, let’s add some leather. At this stage, I’m very attracted to how “off-putting” this scent is. It’s punk. And those that know me, know that I like intimidating and borderline “appalling” fashions, and even fragrances (green florals, leather, etc.). Black Rosette starts to wear as a very natural version of Piguet Bandit on me. It’s sharp and green with a raunchy leather and rosewood. The dry-down is a a dry rose with a dirty patchouli. This is one intimidating badass rose from top to bottom.

Poly Styrene

Notes listed include roses, black tea, leather, and spearmint. Launched 2005. PERFUMER – Alexandra Balahoutis

Give Black Rosette a try if you like “unusual” roses. Or perfumes like Knize 10, Piguet Bandit, Pirouette Rose Musk, Etat Libre d’Orange Rien and/or LUSH The Smell of Weather Turning. To my nose, Black Rosette does smell “natural” which isn’t a bad thing. It shows us just how freakishly weird nature is, like those macro portraits of insects. Being a dirty rose, Black Rosette is unisex.

Projection and longevity are average.

The 1.7 oz. EDP retails for $385 at Strange Invisible Perfumes. Samples are also available for purchase.

Victoria’s Final EauPINIONA punk leather rose. Weird but still beautiful. I do like Black Rosette because it’s punk. But, the price is too Vivienne Westwood Gold Label for my budget. The brand used to have more of a Vivienne Westwood Anglomania price range but they have new bottles and went up $165 (ouch).

    1. I need to sample more from the line. Like all naturals, you never know what is really going to happen with it until it’s on skin. I really like how this one wears on me but my guess is that it could be more “rose” or more “leather” on certain people.

  1. I completely concur with your take on this, including that chilling facet and the whole ‘badass’ vibe. I managed to match this perfume up with a friend who yearned to be reconnected to his first girlfriend through the alchemy of perfume – even though she hadn’t worn any herself – or he didn’t know what if so. I asked him how he would describe her and he said:

“She was feisty and loud and had a sort of Goth-punk look going on. She chain drank tea, smoked like a chimney and chewed gum all the time to disguise the fact.”

SIP Black Rosette popped right into my head, so I fetched my sample and he was transported!

    1. I love this story. It sounds like you are one hell of a perfume matchmaker. Based on the description of Girlfriend, I think Black Rosette is perfect.

This is one of the many reasons why perfume is so fun 🙂

  2. Oh, bad boy in leather bearing roses and tea gifts. Not sure about the spearmint but I could work it in. BUT not going to try this one. Nope, not even a drop. The price!!! Even at 15 or 30 mls-OUCH. And I would be just heartbroken if I loved it..

    1. I thought the spearmint would be gross but it strangely works here. It adds this certain aloofness and weirdness, much like the goth girl that Vanessa described.

But, this price! OMG. I know it’s all subjective, but I find this price crazy. Especially since there has been like an unexplained $165 price increase!
