Smell Bent Dead of Winter is a fragrance in The Snow Man Cometh Winter 2011 limited edition fragrance collection. I’ve fallen for 3 in this collection, Dead of Winter being one of them. This is a “fluffy” gourmand that’s a must try for the heliotrope fan.
Dead of Winter opens with spicy anise/licorice with vanilla sugar. If you want to smell like a Good & Plenty, here you go! And sometimes I do want to smell like candied coated licorice or gourmand anise. And it’s pretty literal, wearing like this for about 15 minutes. And then I get this perfectly soft and fluffy and dreamy heliotrope. The heliotrope reminds me of that perfect, fluffy snow…ski resort snow. The licorice becomes more anise. The base is more almond-tonka-heliotrope with a hint of cedar. Thank goodness, I don’t get any of the rotting flesh of “zombie musk”. 😉
This will not be a fragrance for everyone for obvious reasons. Licorice/anise is something you love or hate. Heliotrope is a tricky note. It loves me and I love it. I really enjoy this fragrance but I could see it going Play-Dough on some people. Heliotrope-almond-vanilla is the main theme of this fragrance and you better like those two notes if you plan on liking Dead of Winter.
Notes listed include anise liquor, vanilla, heliotrope, cedar and zombie musk (ick).
Give Dead of Winter a try if you want to smell like vanilla coated licorice or if you want a sweet/spicy heliotrope perfume. You may like this perfume if you like scents like Etat Libre d’Orange Like This, Il Profumo Vanilla Bourbon, Serge Lutens Datura Noir, and/or 1000 Flowers Réglisse Noir. You must be able to tolerate sweet to like this gourmand.
The perfume is long-wearing has above average projection. It wears linear but I don’t mind because I think it smells good. I really enjoy wearing this in the winter. It’s fluffy and cozy.
I reviewed the EDT which retails for $45. A perfume oil is also available for $20 at Smell Bent. This collection goes bye-bye at the end of February.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – A gourmand with anise and fluffy heliotrope. For some reason I love this perfume.
