Mainstream Monday – Sniffing a Popular Perfume
A few months ago, I reviewed a “Mainstream Monday” fragrance that truly knocked my socks off, ScentStory 24 Gold. That scent, an amber oud, smelled so expensive but had this itty bitty price tag. That perfume reminded my why I bother with the “Mainstream Monday” feature on EauMG! Since I had such a pleasant surprise from that hidden gem, I decided to try another in the line, 24 Platinum.
24 Platinum opens as a cool, metallic citrus rose with effervescence. Once it settles it’s more like a rose with candied fruits and citrus. It’s still cool and well, “platinum”. With wear, Platinum gets sweeter. It’s like an amber rose yet it isn’t warm. It’s cool with green and gin-like notes. This chilled amber rose is accented by a long-wearing, “pearl-like” white musk and vanilla. 24 Platinum is a “platinum rose”, a celebratory rose toasting with flutes of French 75 (a gin and champagne cocktail).
24 Gold is a warm, cozy fragrance while 24 Platinum is cool and icy like its precious metal namesake. Not its Twentieth Century Fox licensed television series name 😉 Like 24 Gold, I think that this is an excellent perfume for the money. It really smells much more expensive than it is. If I were to have blind-sniffed it, I think I would have thought it was by Montale, Xerjoff or one of the Bond No. 9 “exclusive” scents.
Notes include rose, orange, mandarin, juniper berry, sandalwood, gurjun balsam, galbanum, vanilla, amber and white musk. Launched 2012.
Give 24 Platinum a try if you like amber roses. Or perfumes like Bond No. 9 Harrods Rose, Bond No. 9 Perfumista Avenue, Montale Taif Roses, Montale Black Aoud, Juliette Has a Gun Mad Madame and/or Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose. I really think if you like the roses from Bond No. 9 or Montale then you really should give this a try. I think the fragrance is unisex and leans more “feminine” than 24 Gold. And as with 24 Gold, when someone asks me what I’m wearing (and they have), I say, “Oh, I’ve forgotten, Platinum something…from Dubai?” That excuse works.
Projection and longevity are above average (even for an EDP and it’s labeled “EDT”). I actually prefer one spray. These ScentStory perfumes have major projection and sillage.
24 Platinum comes in 1.7 and 3.4 oz with prices ranging from about $36-$50 at FragranceX.com. Samples are also available for purchase.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – A “platinum” rose toasting with flutes of sugary champagne cocktails. I find this a “celebration” type scent because it reminds me of sparkling jewels, platinum and French 75s. This cool floral amber that smells much more expensive than its retail price. I’m a rose fanatic so I really like this one. And if you like roses, this one is really worth trying. This has been another pleasant “cheapie” surprise!
And if you haven’t checked out 24 Gold yet, you should 🙂
