How have I not written a review of any of the Revlon Matte Lipsticks? This is one of my all time favorite lipstick formulas. The formula is matte but not drying and there is a wide range of colors. Today I’m introducing you to Really Red 006. It’s what the name implies! All lovers of vintage and retro beauty should own this tube of lipstick!
The formula: Revlon Matte Lipstick is a truly matte formula but it does have subtle sheen which makes this formula much more wearable than other matte lipstick formulas. I love a retro, matte finish lipstick formula; however, my lips often don’t react well to them. I find many formulas too drying. Revlon’s Matte isn’t. Revlon Matte is far from being a moisturizing lip formula, but it is a very comfortable matte formula. It truly does have a “cushiony” suede-like feel. There’s enough “give” in the formula to make lips look less lined and less dry. These tubes of lipsticks are heavily pigmented. So, do make sure that lips aren’t flaky or dry when wearing a pure pigment matte lip product. Because the product is so pigmented, it wears and wears. I only apply this twice in day/night (18 hours). This formula doesn’t budge. It survives numerous cups of coffee and tea and even trips to the taqueria. Recently on Twitter, Dita Von Teese shared her secret to long-wearing lipstick. She said, “go for matte formulas”. Revlon Matte is the epitome of the long-wearing matte lipstick. I also like that Revlon Matte Lipsticks do not have a fragrance or flavor.
The color: You can see from the pictures that Really Red is really red. It’s a true “retro” red, not too orange and not too blue. It’s bold and it has maximum coverage. I apply one coat directly from the tube. My husband loves this shade. He’s a cutie because he knows to compliment on my bold makeup shades. He’s says, “I like your really red lipstick”. It’s true. It’s Really Red. Even a boy can identify the shade/name of this lipstick! Revlon Really Red is a perfect retro rouge.
If you want a classic, matte finish red, this is it. If you want an Old Hollywood or a Dita Von Teese shade of red, this is it. Everytime I wear this shade, I want to dye my hair black! Some people may find this formula too drying if they are used to moisturizing formulas or glosses. But, those that wear matte lipsticks frequently, will most likely find this the easiest to wear matte formula that has ever touched their lips.
The joy of Revlon Matte is that is available at most drugstores and superstores, Ulta, etc. and it’s cheap! It retails for under $8. It is available at drugstore.com.

I can’t believe it took me this long to find a lipstick just like this!! Its more affordable than any MAC or other $$$! Did you know that this is one of the main lipsticks they use in mad men series?? That’s how i originally discovered it. Woooo, off to buy tommorow! Thanks! I think so. It was used during Fashion Week earlier this year. My mind blanked on the designer’s collection. But, Pat McGrath used this shade on all of the models. It was a pure red on all of the different skin tones. I was impressed 🙂
What lip liner would you recommend for Really Red????? Keep hearing about this beautiful shade of lipstick, but nothing about what liner to wear with it!
I have found this matte formula really stays put and that I don’t need a lip liner. I have worn it with Revlon Colorstay Lip Liner in Red (it’s a great liner for all of my reds). I think some people may recommend using a shade that matches your natural lip color. I’m a bit old-fashioned, especially when it comes to red lipsticks…I like to match them with a red lip liner for a retro polished look.
is it better or mac ruby woo ? and which is more reddish ? 🙂
I can only speak for myself but I prefer the formula over MAC’s. I also prefer Really Red over Ruby Woo. Really Red is more red on me.
