I’ve tried more than a few makeup primers. My goal is to avoid powder because I don’t like how it makes my normal-to-dry skin look. When I go without powder my makeup doesn’t wear for very long and the Seattle rain melts my makeup away. Some primers prolong the wear of my makeup but often lose their effect by the afternoon. Other primers actually make my skin oily. And the primers that I really liked where very expensive, especially for what they did (or didn’t do). And then I tried Reviva Labs Makeup Primer.
This is a simple silicone makeup primer without any fragrance. Other ingredients include vitamin A, vitamin D, olive oil and Coenzyme 10. The texture of the primer is “thick” gel that feels like a serum. It smooths easily and leaves my skin feeling so smooth that it is almost creepy. You only need a small amount because it has all of that “slip”. I put it on in the morning after my skincare routine. I let it “set” while I do my hair and then I do my makeup. I’ve used an entire bottle of this primer. I love it. It’s the best foundation primer that I’ve ever used. And it leaves me with an Old Hollywood promo pic perfect complexion.
Primers are like skincare. It takes so much trial and error to find what works for you. I know that this primer isn’t for most people but it really works for me. My skin feels and looks smooth. I have no issues with shine even during the humid rainy season. And this keeps my Guerlain foundation looking good all day.
Who may not like this? Those with oily skin since the product contains oils. Those that are sensitive to ‘cones/silicones. This primer is simple. If you want added sunscreen or tint in your primer, there are other products on the market like that.
The primer comes in a glass bottle with a pump. The primer is colorless and doesn’t have a fragrance. There’s no shimmer or tint. This is one of the many reasons why I like it.
The 1 oz primer retails for about $20 and is available at drugstore.com.
FYI – Other primers I like include Hourglass Mineral Veil (retails for $52 for 1 oz) and Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (retails for $36 for 1 oz). You can see why I’m so happy with the price of Reviva’s.
