It’s time for me to review this aspirational “master perfume”, created by a “master perfumer”. Puredistance M is a leather amber inspired by “the stylish interiors of a grey Aston Martin”, James Bond’s car. I’ve never been a Bond fan nor have I ever sat in a grey Aston Martin…or any Aston Martin for that matter, but I can say that I like the “overindulgence” that is Puredistance M.
Balsamic citrus and cinnamon spiced honey. It’s complex and multi-faceted. It actually reminds me of mezcal. Cumin and black pepper add a savoriness to this composition. Moss and leather. Smoldering incense resins. M dries down to this mossy leathery amber. Florals listed but I never notice them on m skin. Much of the market wants to claim to be “noir” but M actually is. It’s tall, dark and handsome. It’s everything and then some, making it a “superperfume”.
I like Puredistance M because it reminds me of something that would have existed during the late 1970’s/early 1980’s (and you guys know how much I love those). It’s a powerhouse “masculine” but it has been spruced up for the modern era. Dove’s style and definition of luxury is very “over the top” and it works in this overindulgent composition. The company labels this one as unisex but it’s pretty obvious after briefly looking online that this perfume has a great amount of male devotees. See if you market something with major longevity like a parfum that doesn’t smell like aquatic mojitos to men, they will buy it! My only real beef with Puredistance M, even though I think it’s a great fragrance, is that it does remind me of some vintage masculines and I wish people weren’t so quick to dismiss those. I feel that because of the “extrait” and price tag, that it gets a lot of aspirational purchases from people that were too snobby to try something like Chanel Antaeus or even Aramis. But, it is much better than those but it’s also much more pricey. But hey, buy what you love. I guess that’s my real beef… Are people buying this because they love it or because they think people will love them for wearing it?
Notes listed include bergamot, lemon, rose, jasmine, cinnamon, patchouli, moss, cistus, vetiver, vanilla, leather and musk. Launched 2010. PERFUMER – Roja Dove
Give M a try if you like “dark”, rich fragrances. Or if you like perfumes like Chanel Antaeus, YSL Kouros, Tauer L’Air du Desert Marocain, Divine Parfums L’Homme Sage, Maison Francis Kurkdjian Absolue pour le Soir, Aramis, Hermes Bel Ami and/or Serge Lutens Cuir Mauresque. M is unisex but it does lean as more traditionally masculine.
Projection is average and longevity is above average. It does wear like an extrait/parfum because that’s what it is!
Puredistance M comes in a 2 oz and a 3.4 oz bottle with prices ranging from $330-$590 at Luckyscent. Samples are also available for purchase.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – A dark and smoky mezcal with leather, moss and musk. I really like this, but it’s really difficult for me to admit that because of the price. But, hey if you want to buy this and wear it around me, that’s cool.
