Phaedon Noir Marine EDT Perfume Review

Phaedon Noir Marine

I feel that like all trends, aquatics will come back. The new breed will be darker and moodier. We will never see squeaky clean aquatics vanish, they are like rat tails. However, I believe we will witness an evolution of aquatics in our life time. They will be bossier and brinier than ever imagined. When I saw Noir Marine by Phaedon, I got excited. Could it be the Redeemer of my foreseen aquatic vision?

Noir Marine opens rather strange to me. It reminds me of peppermint tea and ground mustard seeds. Within a few minutes, I get a very faint leathery oud and citrusy frankincense topped with brewed mint tea. It’s odd but not as terrible as those first few minutes had me believe it would be. OK, after 5 minutes the mint has completely vanquished and I’m left with a warm tobacco with sweet resins. And that’s that.

The burning off of the mint doesn’t bother me. I don’t like minty fragrances. I rather like the rest of the fragrance despite its simplicity. I don’t want to wear it but I wouldn’t mind smelling it on a man in passing…or one that I was cuddling. It’s tobacco and resins. I always like that. Other than the name, Noir Marine is not the nouveau aquatics that I prognosticated. But, it is a good fragrance.

Notes listed include Egyptian peppermint, tobacco leaves and resins. Launch date 2011.

Give Noir Marine a try if you like cool to warm fragrances. Or perfumes like Tom Ford Private Blend Oud Wood, Diptyque Volutes EDP, Lagerfeld by Karl Lagerfeld, Serge Lutens Chergui and/or Hugo Boss Baldessarini. Or if you like the candle, Cire Trudon Abd el Kader. I can see how this fragrance is unisex (all fragrances are) but I do feel this one leans more masculine as it dries down. It’s almost too masculine for me to wear comfortably. I see this as the perfect day fragrance for a certain type of guy.

Projection and longevity are average for an EDT.

The 3.4 oz bottle retails for $125 at LuckyScent.

Victoria’s Final EauPINIONMint tea and tobacco leaves. Effortless and a good choice for day wear.
