Patchouli Pits – LUSH Aromaco Natural Deodorant Review

LUSH Aromaco patchouli deodorant

I love the smell of this solid, natural deodorant.I love patchouli. Yes, even headshop, hippie patchouli. I’m a patch-head. I love earthy, woodsy fragrances. LUSH Aromaco Deodorant strongly smells of patchouli oil. And I think that is a great thing, some perfume peeps may find this disgusting. I’ll still be your friend even if you hate patchouli. But, you may not want to stand next to me.

I’m going to be honest. I bought this block of hippie baking soda because I wanted my pits to smell like patchouli. I also like the idea or theory of natural deodorant but I’ve yet to find one that I like. And I like that this product doesn’t have any wasteful packaging. Now, let us all sing around the campfire and hold hands… Anyways, let’s get back to this review. I love patchouli but I hate sing-a-longs.

Aromaco is a block, like the picture above. I find it weird to rub this on my pits. According to the LUSH website, I’m using this block wrong. They say “Take a small piece about the size of a pea and use your index finger to melt it directly onto your underarm.” No, thank you. That takes too much time out of my busy morning routine and with that much contact, I’ll be obsessing over my stubble…can’t handle that. The formula does “melt” and it’s a little sticky, not powdery like commercial stuff. Why? Because I use too much. I’m the person that thinks more is better and it rarely is. I haven’t had any rashes or anything. Any time I switch deodorant, I get rashy. Yeah, this is my post of “too much information”.

I haven’t had any embarrassing moments using this stuff. I’m super paranoid when I use natural deodorants because of my past experiences. F you magic crystal deodorant… Patchouli is wonderful at masking odors and blending in naturally with sweat. Um, maybe that is why people dislike patchouli?

Oh, and make sure you keep this bar wrapped up or in a tin or something. It will dry out and be completely useless. Or you can use it as a pumice stone, LOL.

I don’t think I’ll repurchase this product. I try to love natural deodorants, but I can’t. I can’t get used to them. Obviously, I don’t know how to use them and I’m too stubborn to learn. Natural deodorants don’t fit with my lifestyle. I do recommend this if you are looking for a natural deodorant, you know something without aluminum. For now, I’m going back to evil corporate deodorant spray because I’m lazy.

On-line you can purchase this deodorant block at LUSH for $6.95. At the store other sizes are available.

  1. LOL! I love your honesty. And secretly, I love the smell of my armpit odor at the end of the day and I especially love the smell of my hubby’s armpit odor. Is that so wrong?? Perhaps I should move to Europe or be reborn as a dog so I can bask in sniffing others unique scent.

    1. Haha, well, you’re asking me, so I say no! My husband uses the Original Old Spice deodorant and it smells so good with some “funk” at the end of the day. See, you and I are just so posh, like Europeans 😉

  2. Wow, thank you for letting me know this stuff exists out there. It’s not for me but I love learning about it.

I’m sort of the opposite bent: when I shop for useful products, like deodorant or bug spray I look look for the MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE ingredients by law. You know, like what does the military use for bug spray – I want that. I feel it’s too late for me to worry about chemicals. I’ve “stepped in so far.” 🙂

    1. Haha! That’s how my husband is. He’s like “where do I get the industrial grade stuff?” So, can you imagine doing a home renovation with him? I lived in a Hazmat suit for 6 months!

  3. Kiss My Face Liquid Rock isn’t bad– there’s an unscented one that lasts longer than any natural deodorant I’ve tried (granted, that’s not saying much). The crystals are a bunch of hooey, fo’ sho.

I”m with your husband: bring me the Magic of Science and Chemicals for the armpits!

    1. Speaking of patchouli pits, I LOVE Kiss My Face Patchouli Shaving Cream. It’s amazing.

I feel that I want to live my life without the potential embarrassment of B.O., so yeah, I’ll keep on keeping on rubbing industrial strength chemicals in to my pits 🙂

  4. I’ve been using Aromaco for 3 years now. My trick? I saved a solid deo container (one of those twist-up containers), carefully melted my aromaco, poured the melted liquid into the container, froze it for about 20 minutes, and voila, instant stick that doesn’t dry out and get useless on you. I love this stuff, it does the job and does not stink of dirty hippy while doing it.

    1. That is clever! Do you melt in on the stove? Microwave? And you’re not wasting anything, love it.

I really do love this fragrance. I’d be more than happy with patchouli pits.
