Neil Morris Fragrances Gotham EDP Perfume Review

Neil Morris Gotham

“This fragrance is based on a memory of a summer night out on the town in New York City in November! It was unusually warm and overcast and a bit foggy and the atmosphere had a sense of mystery and things hidden in the night. All in all, a magical evening”

-Neil Morris, the perfumer

Nail Morris Fragrances Gotham opens as a warm, spicy rose with delicate citrus. The citrus burns off rather quickly and it becomes a calm before the storm sort of floral. Dusty, balmy, mellow. The rose intertwines with a Chanel-esque leather. It reminds me of Chanel Cuir de Russie in a bed of roses. It wears like this for hours and then dries down to a creamy amber-tonka.

Out of all of the Neil Morris fragrances that I’ve tried, Gotham is my favorite. But, I haven’t met a leather-rose that I don’t love.

Notes listed include black pepper, yuzu, rose, narcissus, ambergris, myrtlewood, Russian leather, amber and labdanum.

Give Gotham a try if you are looking for a leather rose. Or if you like perfumes like Chanel Cuir de Russie, Lancome Cuir de Lancome, Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Cuir Fetiche, Estee Lauder Cinnabar, Caron Tabac Blond parfum and/or Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose. Gotham is unisex and according to the modern perfume world, it leans more masculine. But, if it were the 1930’s, this one would be perceived as feminine. Gotham has a modern-vintage feel.

Projection is average and longevity is above average. This is a great fragrance for fall/winter wear.

The 2 oz bottle retails for $95 at Neil Morris Fragrances. Samples are also available for purchase.

Victoria’s Final EauPINION Spiced roses and leather on amber. It’s my favorite from this line.

    1. I think it’s really sophisticated. I love leather but I realize it’s not an easy note for many people. I think this one can be enjoyed by even those wary of “leather”.

    1. I bought a sampler set through the site. It’s a diverse range. He does a good job with florals too.

Trees? You’re in trouble. The world has more of those than leather-roses 😉
