Neela Vermeire Creations are excellent perfumes. This is all of the intro that you need.
Trayee opens as a juicy blackcurrant floral with the perfect amount of sweetness and warmth from vanilla and resins. Trayee is complex. Underneath this fruity, sweet warmth is a soft yet sharp oud with green marijuana-vetiver. The scent gets both creamier and smokier with time. I get a smoldering cedar incense with a creamy sandalwood, vanilla, saffron and amber. It dries down to this woodsy incense haze.
This is one of those fragrances that I can’t stop sniffing. It smells so good on me but it also holds my interest (meaning that I can’t help but to attempt to analyze it). I’ve loved Trayee since first wear but I really fell in love with it while I was wearing it in an old concert hall – the echoing moans of modular synths, a visual feast of lights bounced off of stained glass windows…Trayee completed the experience. Trayee and I shared a moment and now I have to have it.
Notes listed include blue ginger, elemi, cinnamon, ganja accord, blackcurrant, basil, jasmine sambac, Egyptian jasmine, cardamom, clove, saffron, Javenese and Haitian vetiver, incense, Mysore sandalwood, patchouli, myrrh, vanilla, cedar, amber, oudh and oakmoss. Launched in 2011. PERFUMER – Bertrand Duchaufour
Give Trayee a try if you like spicier or “dark” roses of if you like perfumes like L’Artisan Parfumeur Safran Troublant, Le Labo Santal 33, By Kilian Liaisons Dangereuses, Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Fleur de Comores, and/or Caron Accord 119. This is a unisex fragrance.
This scent has average projection and above average longevity. I feel that it does have some “heavier” notes but it’s not too heavy for most environments.
The 2 oz bottle retails for $260 at Luckyscent (US) , MiN NY (US) and at Neela Vermeire Creations. Discovery set and samples are also available for purchase. – It’s one that most of us would label as “expensive” but I feel it’s high-quality and it smells better and well, “more expensive” than many other niche offerings.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Gourmand stoner incense. Complex, intelligent yet delightful enough for daily wear. Like the rest of the Neela Vermeire Creations line, this one is also stunning.

I like Trayee – more and more as I keep wearing it – but for my nose/onmy skin it’s almost dry, I can barely smell any sweetness in it. So I would have never guessed what perfume you were reviewing had I started from the Victoria’s Final EauPINION 🙂 But still, very nice review and great perfume. I hope that more and more people get to try and like it. I think that NVC’s discovery set is a perfumista haven.

This one is such a chameleon! I think it wears differently every time I wear it or at least I pick up something different. I remember trying it in NY and it was so cold, snowing. It was a very dry incense with some florals. And then it sometimes it’s fruity. And sometimes I get that greenness. It’s all over the place but that’s why I love it. I think this is why it took me forever to review this; it’s so different. And I can bet it will wear differently on different people.
It’s a great line. I feel it has really added something that the niche perfume world needed.
So between the three originals – Trayee, Mohur, and Bombay Bling – which is your favorite and why? To me, its a continuum.. Mohur feels serious to the point of being stoic, sometimes too intellectual for me. Bombay Bling is a party girl, ready to have a good time but still classy. Trayee is center between the two – intelligent and fun.
Also – have you tried Ashoka? Can’t wait to hear what you think of the fig.. 😉

Tough because it depends on my mood (and I love them all). Initially, Mohur was my favorite but it fit with where I was in my life, so stoic worked for me. Now I find myself leaning towards Trayee. And of course, there are bouts when I want only Bombay Bling.
I have Ashoka but haven’t tried it yet. I told you that I’m so behind on my sampling 🙂

Gourmand stoner incense – very clever. I think it is a masterpiece. Like you, I liked Mohur initially. Trayee took more time to unveil its secrets. I like wearing Trayee on one wrist and Santal 33 on the other to enjoy the difference.
@Ron a continuum; exactly. What will she do next?

I will endorse the masterpiece statement 🙂 I think it’s one of the best things to come out of niche in that last decade. It wasn’t the one that pulled me in initially but I liked it. It just turned into love with time. And you know, those are the most meaningful relationships. I feel like Trayee will be in my life forever.
Sounds like a lovely combo 🙂
