Mugler Alien Beautifying Hair Mist Review

Mugler Alien Hair

Mainstream Monday : Sniffing a Popular Perfume

Mugler bath/body products are some of my favorites. A few months ago, Mugler launched a new Alien bath/body line with cream, lotion, shower milk, deodorant and a hair perfume.

So, what is a hair mist? It’s another way to wear perfume. I’ve noticed over the past few years that hair perfumes have been very popular with perfume and haircare brands. There’s a few reasons that hair perfumes appeal to me.

  1. It’s a different way to wear perfume. Wearing fragrance on hair is going to be different than on the body (where there is more heat). This means that the fragrance will progress differently and probably wear lighter with less projection.
  2. Sure you can wear perfume in your hair but some have ingredients that aren’t great for hair (especially color-treated hair). In theory, a hair perfume should be designed for hair (less/no alcohol, without ingredients that may lighten/fade hair). Some even have ingredients that will smooth hair.
  3. Masks odors. I don’t wash my hair every day because it’s very dry. I like to prolong this by basically wearing deodorant for my hair.

With hair perfumes, I’ve only tried Maison Francis Kurkdjian Scented Hair Mist and Byredo hair Perfume. I’m happy to see Mugler launch this. I’m a Mugler fangirl but sometimes they are “too much” for me i.e. the fragrances wear me.

So, what’s the Alien hair perfume like?

The Hair Mist is the same fragrance as the perfume: Cashmeran, amber and white florals. You can definitely notice the scent. It is a “lighter” version but it’s still noticeable. The fragrance lingers in the hair for most of the day. Also, the bottle is small but you don’t need more than 1-2 sprays. You could also use this like a body spray or perfume if you are looking for a “lighter” version of Alien.

I realize that using a hair perfume can appear to be an extra step…because it is. It’s another way to wear and/or layer perfumes. It’s not a necessity but it is something I enjoy using. Do you use hair perfumes? Are they a product that appeals to you?

The 1 oz bottle retails for $40 at Sephora and Nordstrom.

Here’s my review of Mugler Alien perfume. This hair perfume smells very much the same except more subtle.
