More 1950’s Fashion: Get the Makeup Look of Diana Dors

So, it’s New Year’s Eve. I wanted to do an over the top disco inspired look, but this pick of Diana Dors is festive enough. And I’m staying home. That’s never stopped me before, but I’m just not feeling like it today. Don’t you think Diana looks blonder than usual in this pic? It’s verging on silver to match her top! Anyways, I do love this look. This is a look that does work well with lighter complexions and those with light brown, blonde, and even grey hair. Here’s what I did to get this 50’s inspired look, unfortunately I don’t have a silver robe:

FACE: With my Elizabeth Arden Foundation Brush, I applied Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra in Buff 2. Under the eyes with my Bobbi Brown Concealer Brush , I applied e.l.f. All Over Cover Stick in Apricot Beige. This stick can also be used on blemishes. With my Guerlain Kabuki Brush, I applied Victoria’s Secret Pressed Mineral Powder in Medium 10. This powder has a bit of shimmer that looks natural. With a blush brush, I applied Covergirl Cheekers Blush in Classic Pink, a light but bright pink with faint silver shimmer.

EYES: Those brows are filled in, aren’t they? I don’t love them and personally, I’d feel stupid walking around (in public or at home on NYE) with dark, waxy brows like that. And that’s why I’m not. But, I will fill in brows with a darker than I usually do brow pencil, e.l.f. Studio Eyebrow Lifter & Filler in Ash. I’m also going to take that lifter side and apply it under the brows and blend. With a large eyeshadow brush, I applied Lancôme Color Design Eyeshadow in Latte, a light ivory beige that is matte. With a wet liner brush, I applied Clinique Water Resistant Eyeliner in Soft Black. This is my favorite cake eyeliner. It’s black but not too harsh. I lined, slightly wining out. On the bottom lash line, I applied Jordana Eyeliner Pencil in White, to open up eyes. I curled lashes and applied a coat of Hourglass Film Noir Mascara in Noir to top and bottom lashes. I applied Ardell Duralashes.

LIPS: When I do these looks, I always try to avoid limited edition colors because I want these to be looks that you can recreate any time of the year. However, I couldn’t resist. Revlon Fire & Ice Collection Super Lustrous Lipstick in Temptress is the perfect Diana Dors lipstick! It’s this pink and it’s in retro 50’s packaging. It’s a lipstick made for this look! Directly from the tube, I applied this lipstick, a satin light pink. It looks lighter of course, indoors or with a flash. In my pic, I’m standing in front of  a window with blinds; hence, the stripes look.

Now for a fragrance. I want it to be cool, icy but feminine. That is why I am going for Creed Fleurissimo.

So, it’s NYE, do you have any plans? Like I said, I’ll be staying in, but I don’t mind that. I can’t think of anything less appealing than drunken masses. I’m not interested. Husband, Frink the Frug, and I will stay home, most likely being boring and playing Scrabble. It appears that Frink swallowed at least 2 letter tiles. I did salvage the /b/ from his fruggly mouth, but it’s half a /b/.

I  hope everyone has a safe, fun, and wonderful New Year’s Eve!

  1. Frink was trying to spell something out for you! I guess we’ll never know what the word was.

We are staying in tonight too, and plan on watching Andy Cohen on Bravo. He’s the best kind of mess to watch. He’ll surely be drunk.I’ll be doing what I usually do, sniffing perfumes and furiously scribbling notes. I’ve got good booze and might make myself a White Russian, but I only drink once a year, so I’ll probably be ripped by 10pm.

Nice job on the Diana Dors look. You’re good at translating looks from different complexions and coloring to suit your own.

    1. Oh, but then Frink realized they were just too delicious! Smushed faced dogs have a tendency to be suicidal from my experience. He loves to eat non-food items.
That sounds like a nice to night. We didn’t even plan a “special” meal or anything like that. Oh, well.
In my mind that Revlon lipstick is lighter. I feel like it is in certain lights, but it has actually been sunny here! So, I’m able to take pics in natural light. It’s weird. I’m not used to working with natural light.
Hope you have a wonderful NYE!

  2. Love this look. Natural with a kick of glamour!

It’s a quiet night for us, as most NYE are. I prefer it that way. We are watching old SNL episodes in netflix and having some laughs.

Have fun tonight and good luck keeping Frink away from the scrabble tiles!

    1. We’ve never done anything for NYE. I dislike crowds and drunks.
Sounds like a nice night. We may watch a movie, haven’t decided. That’s why I love Netflix!
      See ya in 2011 😉

  3. Gorgeous! You actually really look like her! I just ran across your blog today and am so enjoying all the vintage looks you have recreated!!!
