More 1930’s Fashion: Get the Makeup Look of Eleanor Powell

style icon Eleanor Powell

I had to do this look because the colors seem so Christmasy. I don’t have anything in forest green velvet, boy, am I missing out. But, I can get this classic and classy makeup look of Eleanor Powell with a few things I have in my makeup arsenal.

FACE: This look is really about a flawless complexion. Isn’t it amazing what photo rouging can do for the complexion? 🙂 With my Elizabeth Arden Foundation Brush, I applied LancĂ´me Absolue Cream Makeup in Ecru 10. With this cream makeup, a little goes far. Under the eyes, I patted on with my fingertips, Covergirl Simply Ageless Concealer in Corrector. With my mark Powder Brush, I dusted on Clarins Loose Powder in Beige. Time to contour! The best powder I have found for this is Alima Pure Bronzer in Maracaibo (for light complexions, I think I need to go up a shade to medium). I contoured the hollows of my cheeks and both sides “down” the nose. Suck in the cheeks and then move the brush along the hollows. With a blush brush, I applied Alima Pure Matte Blush in Mimosa, a very light warm shade that is a perfect blend of peach and pink.

EYES: Obviously, I can’t get my brows to look like this. I filled them in with Clinique Brow Shaper in Soft Brown with the brush that it comes with. Unruly brows will need a brow gel too. Eye makeup is really simple. I applied my concealer on my lid to even out my skintone. With a wide eyeshadow brush, I applied LancĂ´me Color Design Eyeshadow in Latte, a light, matte creamy beige. From lash line to crease, I applied LancĂ´me Color Design Eyeshadow in Mochaccino, a medium and matte neutral brown. I closely line the top lash line with Wet n Wild Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Dark Brown to give the illusion of thicker lashes. I curled lashes and applied a coat of Hourglass Film Noir Mascara in Onyx to top and bottom lashes. I then applied Ardell Duralash Accents, false eyelashes.

LIPS: Now to the lips… I lined lips with NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Nutmeg. Directly from the tube, I applied Estee Lauder Pure Color Lipstick in Autumn, a beautiful rusty red with gold shimmer. I applied YSL Touche Brillance Lip Gloss in Gold Shimmer, a sheer shimmery gold highlighting gloss. I applied it to the bottom lip with my fingertip.

And because this look is very Christmas-y to me. I recommend that it be topped off with Caron Nuit de Noel. What’s your Christmas fragrance?

How to get the 1930's makeup look of Eleanor PowellIf you celebrate Christmas, I wish you a merry one. It’s a very low-key weekend for us. We stay at home and that’s about it. We planned a “special” Christmas Eve small plate menu, but for some reason my cardamom white chocolate mousse has lost all of its fluff! It looks more like a custard. Why does this stuff happen when you actually are planning for it all to work out? Santa is punishing me. Oh, well, white chocolate even in a muddy, pudding form is always good.

  1. You look beautiful! I love this look and Nuit de Noel is the perfect choice.

I haven’t picked my xmas eve scent yet, might be Parfum d’Empire Ambre Russe, or DSH Kohl Gris, or Soivohle Love Speaks Primeval or….LOL

    1. Thank you 🙂
I haven’t picked a scent for myself either. I think all of yours sound wonderful but I haven’t tried any of them! For some reason, I thought of wearing Tom Ford Black Orchid because of the truffle note.
