Here’s a review of the cleanser and toner that I have been using for the past few months by Mario Badescu: Enzyme Cleansing Gel and Seaweed Cleansing Lotion. My skin is normal and normal to dry in the winter. However, I have concerns with dullness and discolorations. Is that normal? 😉
Enzyme Cleansing Gel – A minty green colored cleansing gel that exfoliates the skin with natural fruit Alpha Hydroxy Acids from papaya and grapefruit. The aroma is strangely familiar, a bit dated, and I like it. After using it for a week, I finally realized that the fragrance reminds me of Revlon Jean Naté Shower Gel. Being that I have a bottle of Jean Naté Shower Gel, I compared the two. They are different but very, very similar. The gel doesn’t foam very well. I use it with my Shisiedo Facial Cleansing Brush. I feel like an exfoliating madwoman using two forms of exfoliation: chemical and manual. My skin has looked much “brighter” while using this cleansing gel. The gel rinses off easily with water. My skin is not left tight, dry, or oily. But, I can’t use it twice a day in the winter because my skin is too dry then. I recommend this cleanser if you like Lancôme Gel Radiance Cleanser (which retails for $25 for a little over 4 oz.). Two sizes are available. The 8 oz. retails for $12 and the 16 oz. for $20.
Seaweed Cleansing Lotion – A light green alcohol-free toning lotion for sensitive and/or dry skin types. This toning lotion contains skin soothing aloe vera, witch hazel, and algae. The aroma is mineral and slightly “aquatic”. This toner is something that I had to get used to. I’m used to alcohol based toners which leave my skin tingly/and or tight; I know I’m wrong for this! The Seaweed Cleansing Lotion doesn’t “feel” like it is doing anything. It leaves my skin feeling soft, no tingle, no tightness. However, I do see the makeup residue on the cotton pad so I know it’s removing something. This is a wonderful formula for normal to dry skin types. If you like toners like Clarins Toning Lotion for Normal/Dry Skin then you should like this one from Mario Badescu; MB is a cheaper alternative too. Three sizes are available: 8 oz. for $15, 16 oz. for $26, and 32 oz. for $45.
Overall I like both of these products even though I had to get used to the cleansing lotion/toner. With time the toning lotion has really grown on me. My skin doesn’t have to burn to be clean! I recommend both of these products for skin types that are normal and are concerned with “dullness”.
I’m also loving the simple packaging of Mario Badescu skincare products. I am in love with their font and the light green font color matches my deco inspired bathroom tile 🙂 Now my skincare is matchy-matchy to my bathroom!
