Out of all the Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Mood perfumes, Oud Silk Mood is my favorite. This shouldn’t surprise you at all because the one heaviest on the rose out of the collection. Rose and oud, is not an innovative combination in perfumery, but it’s a classic that works.
Kurkdjian has already created some excellent rose perfumes like Guerlain Rose Barbare and Juliette Has a Gun Lady Vengeance. But, this one has his name all over it, so you know it’s going to be good.
Oud Silk Mood opens as a sharp, green rose with like slices of crisp, green apples. It’s like a fruity rose with tartness. Oud Silk Mood is a contrast of coolness and warmth. The cool, crisp rose is balanced by a warm, earthy oud. The oud isn’t medicinal or sharp. It does have those fungal/mushroom-y aspects that I like in an oud. As it dries down, it’s dry but slightly smoky with blackberry jam and a smooth amber.
Silk is a great textural analogy to make for this fragrance. “Silky” is exactly the adjective that I would use to describe this woodsy-floral.
Notes listed include Bulgarian rose, oud, chamomile and papyrus. Launched 2013. PERFUMER – Francis Kurkdjian
Give Oud Silk Mood a try if you like oud/rose combos. Or if you like perfumes like ScentStory 24 Platinum, Juliette Has a Gun Lady Vengeance Extreme, Montale Aoud Queen Roses, Caron Secret Oud, Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme and/or Histoires de Parfums Rosam.
Projection and longevity are above average.
The 2.4 oz bottle retails for $375 at Osswald.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Granny Smith apples, roses and oud. It’s super expensive but it smells good. It’s the least “weird” from the Oud Mood Collection and there are so many rose/oud perfumes on the market. But, it’s good. I guess if you already sleep in real silk bedding, then you can splurge on a “silk” perfume too. I’m just going to keep wearing the 100% polyester satin version of it, Juliette Has a Gun Lady Vengeance…which is less luxurious but I can afford it.
