M.Micallef Rose Extreme EDP Perfume Review

M. Micallef Rose Extreme

When you dabble into the perfume world you quickly start to realize that you don’t know your tastes. You’ll say things like “I hate jasmine” and only find yourself falling in love with a jasmine-heavy perfume six months later. My tastes have changed from when I first started showing interest perfume. I shouldn’t say “changed” but instead expanded. I’m open to more. Now saying that, I started this journey loving rose and I still do. I love rose. I’m a rose person. People often ask me “what is your favorite rose?” and honestly, I have like 12+ favorite roses. I like rose for its versatility and its multiple personalities. This year I’ve added a new “favorite” to my dirty dozen (ish) of rose perfumes, M. Micallef Rose Extreme.

M. Micallef Rose Extreme is my kind of rose. Gorgeous, thick, voluptuous. It’s rose centifolia with chewy apricot fruit leather. A carnation clove peaks through the vivid, velvety deep red rose petals. Rose Extreme is a fruity, spicy rose. The heart is a perfect spiced rose. The dry-down is a rich, musky rose with a soft amber. It’s a rose for rose lovers. And not that it matters but this is such a “me” fragrance. It would have been something that I would have loved 10 years ago and something that I love today.

Anita Ekberg

Notes listed include Centifolia rose, osmanthus, peach, Bulgarian rose, iris, clove pink carnation, sandalwood, musk, vanilla and amber. Launch date 2013. PERFUMER – Jean-Claude Astier

Give Rose Extreme a try if you like spiced roses or “lush” roses. Try it if you like Aftelier Wild Roses, Guerlain Nahema, Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose, Amouage Lyric for Women and/or Caron Pour Une Femme.

Sillage and longevity are above average.

The 1.7 oz EDP retails for $485 at Luckyscent. It’s covered in Swarovoski crystals and comes in a fancy lacquer box. I really wish the presentation was toned down so that the price would go down. I feel like an ass praising a perfume that is like $10 a ml.

Victoria’s Final EauPINIONSpiced dried fruit rose. Luscious and voluptuous. I absolutely love it and you have to understand that this pains me. The price is insane and for some reason I’m forgiving it. Do I need a reality check? If so, make that check out for $485 + tax.

  1. OMWord!!! I actually find it kind of sad that a company will go all out with a luxurious presentation and limit the number of people who can enjoy it. In my opinion it would have been better to have a more affordable option and launch this one for the holidays for example. As much as I love rose and this fragrance does seem amazing, based on your review, I don’t think I would purchase it, even if I won the lottery.

    1. Yeah. I wish this were a LE or a collector’s bottle. And then I wish that there were a plain bottle or even a refill available that was more in line with the price of other fragrances the line offers.

I love it but I know it’s not really attainable for me (and many other people as well).

I also want to say that when I tested this fragrance and fell in love with it, I had no idea it was one of of the most expensive perfumes that I’ve ever sampled in my life. If I knew the cost, I would have probably not sampled it!

  2. I love this one also.. but I’ve kind of held off on reviewing it, just because of the price. It is absolutely exquisite and the most gorgeous rose that you could imagine. I hope they do a standard presentation of it. I would strongly consider buying a full bottle for myself (and sell off all my other roses – including Le Labo and Lyric Man – to finance it.)

    1. It’s difficult to suggest a perfume in this price range because it’s pretty much unattainable and out of budget for many people. AND it’s much more expensive than other niche offerings.

Now saying that, I still think it smells great and wearing it makes me happy. Will I end up purchasing a full glitzy bottle? Probably not unless I win the lottery. Would I buy the same thing in less luxurious packaging for less money? Yes. And I would probably get rid of some of my other roses for this one. Seriously.

    1. I can so see Anita wearing this. I really can.

There’s quite a few of the Micallef perfumes that I like. In fact, I try to limit myself from trying them since I seem to fall in love with the ones that I do!

    1. I really like Nasreen as well. They are related but I think Nasreen is more “noir”…and probably better educated.
