Le Jardin Retrouve Citron Boboli Perfume Review

Le Jardin Retrouve Citron Boboli

Le Jardin Retrouvé Citron Boboli (once known as Citron Poivré) is the sort of refreshing citrus that I’m craving on this hot, muggy city days. It’s inspired by the Palazzo Pitti’s Baboli Gardens in Florence. When you’re sweating it out in the subway terminal like a sauna from your nightmares, the streets smell like urine and garbage and every piece of grime sticks to your sticky body, I want something that smells crisp, refreshing and well, transports me to some place like the Baboli Gardens. Citron Boboli does this.

The opening of Citron Boboli reminds me of a Lémonsoda¹…or maybe limoncello in a soda water. Either way,  this opening is effervescent and tart. It then starts to wear as candied ginger. It’s sweet, spicy and still very lemon-y. The dry-down is spicy with green citrus and the faintest hint of vanilla cream soda (Big Shot!²).

In this warmer weather, it’s a real joy to wear. It’s refreshing and “fizzy”. However, with the spiciness, I think this could be a citrus for cool weather as well.

Notes listed include pepper, pimento, lemon, petitigrain, bitter orange, galbanum, clove, cinnamon, St. John’s wort and geranium. PERFUMER – Yuri Gutsatz

Give Citron Boboli a try if you like lemon fragrances. Or perfumes like 4711 Acqua Colonia Lemon & Ginger, Demeter Meyer Lemon, L’Occitane Citrus Verbena Intense, Fresh Sugar Lemon and/or Origins Ginger Essence. Many lemon-centric perfumes tend to remind me of dish soap, Citron Boboli doesn’t. It’s more like limoncello with a sugar cube than Ajax.

Projection is average. Longevity is below average. It wears more like an EDT.

Citron Boboli comes in a few sizes with the 4.2 oz bottle (set) selling for €140 at Le Jardin Retrouvé. Samples are also available for purchase.

Victoria’s Final EauPINIONSweet, spicy lemon. I’m loving this one. It’s one of my favorites from the line. (My other being Cuir de Russie, which is really different).

¹Lemonsoda is an Italian brand of lemon soda. Italians make the best carbonated beverages. My favorite thing at Epcot (and World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta)is seeing everyone gag/spit up Beverly, one of my favorite sodas (RIP). But, this is coming from someone that likes both tarragon sodas and Cheerwine (don’t trust a Carolina-style BBQ joint that doesn’t serve Cheerwine).

²Big Shot is the world’s sweetest soda sold in New Orleans and Cajun country/Acadiana that my mom uses in daiquiris. These days if I want a cream soda, I get Dr. Brown’s. It’s easier to come by.

    1. It really is. When I drove up here from Nashville to get the dogs from my mom, the car was full of Cheerwine and pug-like things.
