Perfume people are picky. You know that. I think L’Artisan Parfumeur Fleur de Liane is a good perfume and possibly great IF (see, I’ve already started with the picky “ifs”) it it were half the price or IF I lived in a tropical climate.
Fleur de Liane opens as ozonic and green. It doesn’t remind me of a tropical Panamanian rainforest but instead dew covered grass on an early summer morning…that is part of a drugstore shampoo commercial set. Fleur de Liane becomes a fresh, aquatic fruity floral. I get cucumber/watermelon/guava with pale, pale green florals. It smells clean, fresh, inoffensive. The greens are green and the fruits are fruity. There’s a hint of peppery tomato leaves. The dry-down is a damp vetiver and patchouli with the perfect amount of moss. Fleur de Liane is good but not me. Or at least “not me” living in Western Washington.
I was wearing this one day and my husband said, “You smell really corporate.” He later clarified that my perfume smelled good but really, really “Clinique“. Exactly. That’s my issue with this fragrance. It smells “good”, but it smells very mass market to me. As a mass fragrance it could have been brilliant. As a niche fragrance, I’m disappointed. Oh, we finicky perfume people…can one ever make us happy? Sometimes I wonder…
Notes listed include green notes, sap, guava, magnolia, tuberose, frangipani, marigold, guaiac wood, cedar, vetiver, patchouli and moss. Launch date 2008. PERFUMER – Bertrand Duchaufour
Give Fleur de Liane a try if you like fresh, fruity florals or perfumes like Clinique Happy, Prescriptives Calyx, Bliss EDT, Victoria’s Secret Body, and/or Ralph Lauren Polo Blue. Fleur de Liane could be unisex (within certain age groups such as young teenagers), but it reminds me of popular women’s fragrances.
Fleur de Liane has average projection and longevity for an EDT. It’s probably best suited for warmer climates.
The 1.7 oz EDT of Fleur de Liane retails for $100 at Beautyhabit. And sometimes Lily Direct and Fragrancenet have it on discount.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Pale green fruity floral. This is not my taste. I don’t like it. And I’m not wasting my time with it. If I want something like this, I’ll wear Prescriptives Calyx which is cheaper and better suited towards my tastes (and cuts through our mild climate better).
