Juliette Has A Gun Midnight Oud EDP Perfume Review

Juliette Has A Gun Midnight Oud

Juliette Has A Gun Midnight Oud is one of those fragrances that claims to be an oud, but it is really a rose-leather. And this isn’t a bad thing! Why are some fragrances ashamed of who they really are?

Midnight Oud wears linear on me but I like it. The opening is different than other rose-ouds I’m familiar with. It’s the same theme of rich saffron, smooth woods, and “new” leather except there is this “sharp” rose geranium. This rose is crisp, reminding me of the rose used in many masculines. The oud in Midnight Oud is smooottthhh like butt-ah. It isn’t medicinal; it’s soft and very approachable. It reminds me of new leather, not a black leather, but a new beige or camel leather (not that they smell different, it’s just that the leather doesn’t seem “black”). With some time, the rose gets jammy, reminding me Kilian Rose Oud, a decadent and sticky rose, a “black” rose. Oh, the saffron is there and it is good. My skin loves saffron, making Midnight Oud work for me. The gourmand rose and saffron melds wonderfully with the leather accord. The dry-down is incense-like with soft amber and woods. When I wear it, I feel very va-va-voom. It’s a fairly linear scent but long-wearing. A little spray or a few dabs go far.

Notes listed include Morrocan rose, geranium, saffron, oud note, patchouli, sandalwood, amber, and animalic musks.

Give Midnight Wood a try in you like woody-leather-roses or fragrances like Kilian Rose Oud, Czech & Speake Dark Rose, Kilian Rose Oud, Bond No. 9 New York Oud, and/or Trish McEvoy Black Rose Oud.

The 3.4 oz. EDP of Midnight Oud retails for $135 and is available at Beautyhabit. Samples are also available for purchase.

Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Not the most interesting rose-leather on the market, but I like it. This is something that if I owned, I’d wear it frequently. Gives me my “Kilian” fix at a lower price point. And it isn’t as masculine as something like Knize 10. JHaG Midnight Oud is a very “me” fragrance. I wouldn’t mind owning a bottle (not wild about the gold bottle though, doesn’t look good in person).

  1. I am not much of a fan of rose but love oud and leather. I love you defining the leather by colour. I often have colours jump into my head when sampling. The only Juliette Has a Gun I have tried is Not a Perfume which I quite like although I know this single moleclue thing is quite hotly debated.

    1. The rose is this is there but much “duller” than I expected. (I guess I’m used to how Montale does oud-rose). It’s nice and worth sampling. I find that the JHaG line isn’t for everyone, many remind me of all the Chanel feminines launched after 2000 but with more of an Arabic influence. I like 50% of the JHaGs and I hate the other 50%. Good. I need to save my money 🙂

Not a Perfume, is good smelling. I love ambroxan but I’d never buy it at its current price. But, I’ll save that for another day 😉

    1. I haven’t tried Gucci Guilty for Her, so I can’t say. Next time I’m at Sephora, I’ll spray it on.

I ended up buying a bottle of Midnight Oud. That opening is really addictive!
