Inis “The Energy of the Sea” by The Fragrances of Ireland is a clean, cool aquatic perfume. It’s a quintessential aquatic fragrance.
Inis (Irish for island) fits right into the aquatic genre of fragrances. It opens with cold ozone, citrus-melon and florals. With time I get an overdose of lily of the valley mixed with algae – something green and salty. The lily of the valley is what makes this scent so clean to me. (I have a feeling that most people will call this “soap” and not lily of the valley). The heart of Inis smells like one has just walked out of the shower. It’s slightly humid and very, very clean. The base is a clean musk and salty ozone. Overall, the fragrance is cool and clean.
Notes listed include neroli, Sicilian bergamot, marine notes, geranium, lily of the valley, cloves, nutmeg, sandalwood, oakmoss and musk.
Obviously, try Inis if aquatics are your thing. Try if if you like clean, “shower fresh” fragrances. Try it if you like Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio for Men or Women, Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu, any of the CLEAN brand fragrances, Davidoff Cool Water for Women, Bvlgari Aqua Marine, L’eau D’Issey Pour Homme, and/or Henrik Vibskov Type C. Inis Cologne is completely unisex. And since it is a clean and cool fragrance, I see it working well in warmer climates.
I know that the “aquatic” genre is something you like or you hate. (OK, most of us are completely neutral). Many aquatic fragrances smell very similar to me so I can’t imagine owning more than one. That being said, Inis is affordable and you can find scents very similar to it that cost more (like Acqua di Gio).
The scent calls itself a cologne. For a cologne it has above average projection and longevity. I would say it’s more like an EDT or possibly an EDP.
Between Irish Spring bar soap and Inis Cologne, my guess is that the Irish really, really like to smell clean.
Inis comes in 3 sizes (1 oz-3.4 oz) with prices ranging from $35-$50 at Fragrances of Ireland.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – A cool, clean unisex aquatic. If aquatics are your thing, give it a try. If aquatics aren’t your thing, then you’re not missing anything.
