Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is not a highlighting powder; it’s a finishing powder. I’ve been on a search for a finishing powder that doesn’t make my dry skin look dull and well, powdery.
The claims: Really there are some hilarious claims like “using photoluminiscent technology” to filter out harsh light which will make your complexion look really great in all sorts of light even flash photography. So, yeah, they’re saying that this product has mica and will make your skin look awesome. Here’s a list of ingredients.
The formula: The finish is meant to be sheer and not settle into lines or pores. It comes in 6 shades that are universal but promise different effects. It is very finely milled and has subtle shimmer. There is no fragrance.
The shade – Diffused Light: This is a warm, pale yellow that is meant to reduce the appearance of redness. On my skin it is sheer. The pale yellow blends easily into my light warm complexion. It’s perfect for me.
My experience: It’s a pressed powder and you apply it with a brush. I used a kabuki brush that I already own. It is a very sheer powder. It’s shimmery but not in an over the top way, in a dewy shimmery way. It looks good on me. But, here’s the deal. I hate powder. I have dry skin and powder makes me look dull. It doesn’t look flat or heavy. It doesn’t provide any coverage. It sets the foundation. It does everything that I want a setting powder to do.

Who may like this product? I recommend this product to those that have normal or dry skin that like a sheer, dewy finish but are looking for a powder to set foundation. This product “sets” and doesn’t provide any coverage. It’s good for someone looking for something lightweight feeling. I like that it isn’t a loose powder because those are messy. This one is easy to travel with.
Who may not like this product? Those with oily skin or those desiring a matte finish. I don’t have oily skin but my guess that this powder isn’t about mattifying. If you are looking for more coverage, try a different product. If you want a highlighting shimmer product, try something else. If you a finishing powder with zero sparkle, try something else.
I realize that this is just a powder. It doesn’t perform miracles. Saying that, I wanted a good finishing powder for my skin and I found one. It’s finish is anti-powder and I love that. For my needs, this is perfect. I realize that for those with different needs, this product is a waste of money. Try before you buy!
