I think tuberose is a lovely note but I have difficulty wearing tuberose heavy perfumes. However, tuberose fragrances are growing on me and I have been sampling more and more of them this year. Histoires de Parfums Tubéreuse 01 Capricieuse was a hit on my skin. Do you want to know why? It’s not really a tuberose perfume.
To my surprise, Tubéreuse opens with this wonderful suede mixed with a soft coconut-ish tuberose. But, there is a juiciness from sparkling citrus that keeps this from being creamy. This citrus quickly fades and I’m left with a metallic iris and hints of rich suede with a very rubbery tuberose. Yes, it’s very metallic in the opening but no more so than a few Malles that I’ve tried. The base is slightly spicy iris with soft suede with just a hint of dry cocoa powder. Take off your beer goggles and you’ll realize that Tubéreuse 1 is an iris pretending to be a va-va-voom tuberose. And I’m fine with that. Oh, Tubéreuse 1, you are capricious!
Notes listed include tuberose, bergamot, saffron, iris, ylang-ylang, suede and cocoa.
Give Tubéreuse a try if you like iris fragrances. Or perfumes like Parfums DelRae Mythique, Guerlain Cuir Beluga, Piguet Calypso, Etat Libre d’Orange Bijoux Romantique, Serge Lutens Daim Blonde, and/or By Kilian Beyond Love. It’s a good “tuberose” for those that aren’t crazy about the idea of wearing tuberose fragrances. It’s a bad tuberose for those that like tuberose unless you really like iris too.
Tubéreuse 1 has average projection and above average longevity on my skin. The dry-down is very “skin friendly” – warm and soft.
Tubéreuse 1 is available in 2 sizes (2 and 4 fl.oz) with prices ranging from $125-$205 at Histoires de Parfums.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – An iris and suede fragrance attempting to masquerade as a tuberose scent. And because of that, I find it easy to wear and I love it. And it’s the most beautiful rubbery fragrance that I can think of. It seems that I like to wear unusual metal, rubber florals. I told you, I like the traveling circus of perfumes.
