Weekly Cheap Secret:
I remember when Hard Candy was sold at department stores and Sephora. I liked the line and I owned a few of the lip glosses, eyeshadows, blushes. Hard Candy disappeared and then came back…to Wal-Mart. I wonder what terrible thing Hard Candy did in its previous life to be reincarnated and carried exclusively by Wal-Mart. Oh, well.
I’m reviewing Hard Candy Mouthing Off Sheer Lip Shine in Prom Queen.
The packaging and applicator– The biggest down fall for this product is its packaging. It’s a standard plastic tube with a doe foot sponge applicator. But, both ends are white cardboard with an inky design. I think it is bad since it isn’t durable and the white cardboard rips, breaks, and gets dirty quickly. The top of mine slid off, leaving me this ugly mini toilet paper roll. Not glam.
The color Prom Queen – Really Prom Queen isn’t a color. It’s a translucent gloss with multi-colored mid-size glitter flakes that sparkles like a tiara. It’s pretty. I feel it is “too” young for me but I can make it work when layered over more mature lipstick colors.
The formula & fragrance– Other than the shotty packaging and giving Wal-Mart your money for this product, the formula is exactly the same and how I remember Hard Candy Lip Glosses being back in the day. It’s a medium weight gloss (not as thick as MAC) that isn’t sticky and well, it’s a little dry. Not super shiny looking. Because of the weight, it wears longer than most glosses. The fragrance is juvenile but awesome. It’s store bought “white” birthday cake. It’s sweet powdered sugar with a hint of vanilla. It’s synthetic smelling but fun.
Overall, I’m happy that the formula didn’t change and it’s the same ‘ole Hard Candy gloss that I remember. But, I really do hate the packaging. I wish it would loose the toilet paper roll bumpers and be completely plastic/metal/whatever. The packaging, I can’t live with it. Bummer because the product itself isn’t bad.
Hard Candy Mouthing Off Lip Shine retails for under $5 and is avialble at…Wal-Mart (in both the US and Canada).
