I ordered 3 Deviant Lipsticks and a few other lippies from the indie cosmetic line, Evil Shades. And I’m happy that I did. I have been very happy with the 6 items that I ordered. I was going to review/swatch all the items in one article, but each deserve their own spotlight. Especially a lipstick that is pin-up perfect, rockabilly red, and could easily be rocked by Robert Smith.
The Color: I ordered the Deviant Lipstick in Devilista, the perfect pin-up blue red with a satin finish. It’s one of those reds that makes the teeth look much whiter. With one coat, this shade looks pink on me, most cool blue reds do on me. This is the bottom swatch. With a 2 layers, I get a true blue red (the swatch on top). And below you will see me wearing this shade. I recommend this shade for any complexion that is looking for a cool red. Can you imagine this shade on pale complexion with dark hair? Wowza.
The Formula: The formula is super long wearing. I guess this is because it stains the lips. This does not bother me. It isn’t permanent and I like for my reds to last. The formula isn’t waxy and it’s smooth. It doesn’t dry my lips even though it wears forever! There’s no feathering. There is a very faint bubblegum aroma. This shade is not vegan.
The Packaging: These lipsticks come in a “Chap-stick” style packaging. The end is flat like a lip balm and the product twists up. I find this packaging simple and practical. I apply bold colors with a lip brush. The flat top makes applying with a lip brush easy. I always flatten them out with a brush anyways.
And with my order, Andrea, The Mistress of Color, included a sample of Blush in Backtalk. Backtalk is a finely milled bold bubblegum pink with a teeny bit of subtle orange shimmer. This color is beautiful! I’m wearing it above. It is so blindingly bold but applied it looks like a natural, healthy flush. OK, kind of like a smack. And that would be what happened to me when I backtalked my mama. If you like NARS Desire, then try Backtalk.
Deviant Lipsticks retail for $4.75 and the blushes retail for $6. These are available at Evil Shades web store.
